Hi Varun - Actually, I did post a photo, in the " Plant of the Month April 2017" thread. Just a couple of quick snap shots, but I was so excited I had to enter it. It's an exciting plant to flower (I'm sure you know!). Just saw it. That was awesome. Beautiful shots of a beautiful plant Apo. You are right...its such a rewarding moment to see it flower suddenly. Especially it is so hard to even know if it is alive. The leaves are so small and hidden away. here it is fully open

I have coveted this plant for over 5 years. Finally acquired a 2 leaf specimen. It largely is hidden with tiny inconspicuous leaves in the moss, but a few weeks ago, I started noticing a couple of spikes. Today morning before the lights came on, I found this: The beautiful U. campbelliana. So amazing.

So here is an update on this thing. It seems that for now, this display setup is working better than the cubed display last time. The plant has more room to grow, the heat isn't being focused on the plant and the kids aren't wilting right away. So pretty encouraging. Growth on the moss is also coming in, so I am excited to see where this goes in the future. I want a nice hill of cephalotus pitchers.

Cordyceps will only ever look like that. What you are seeing is the fruiting body of the fungus : A mushroom. It is not a plant, so you won't see leaves or flowers. Most of its life is in the form of filaments growing inside the body of those insects.

Would be helpful if u can share a pic. Keep in mind nepenthes are vines. They don't really have a crown. While it is possible for neps to grow from lower down the stem/roots, a dead stem might be a problem and unfavourable for this genus. Don't worry, early on, these kind of mistakes happen.

woah. Isn't that supposed to be a powerful psychedelic? Still pretty cool though. Do u get worms and put them in an environment with fungal spores?

Hi Varun, Really enjoying reading this thread, and lots of interesting pictures and info. I'm looking into building an Orchidarium for my miniature orchids (restrepias, angraecum, lepanthes, aerangis, masdevallias and some others) and so far the Exo-Terra seem like the best option I've found as a starting point. I've never attempted anything like this before. Have you been pleased with the exo-terra and is there anything about it you wish was different? Would you use one again? And can you detail the other kit you've used - I'm particularly interested in the lighting strips and the fogging/misting units. Also, how do you control the lights? Are they just a simple timeswitch, or are you raspPi-ing the setup? I'm thinking about going 'all in' and adding monitoring so I can track the environment (humidity, temp, lighting etc) over time. Cheers OB. Hey OB, Thanks for your nice comments. Yes.. in terms of the quality of ego terra, I do like them. They are good quality tanks..however, I would recommend to check them for leaks. My tank ended up having a leak which I had to seal with silicone. I think its a rare event, but definitely possible. So fill the tank bottom with an inch of water and make sure the seals hold. In terms of others, there are some nice NAT GEO tanks at petsmart as well. Bottom line is Akatsuki/exoterra/Nat Geo tanks are alll good. If I could find a 4' exo terra, I would use it. My personal recommendation... get a plexiglass/glass cover to replace the screen cover. I don't use one...my orchids have mostly perished. I am just not good at taking care of them. They grow well for 1y or so, and then they die for me. I guess I just don't fertilize them or provide the sufficient nutrients. I let the media get too acidic / use too pure water (starve them). Lighting-wise depends on the tank: I am using currentUSA/ Finnex/ Ecotech Marine freshwater LED fixtures. Different for the different tanks. They are all working well for my purposes. It might be a bit too much for orchids...so keep that in mind. The lighting is controlled just by a regular timer from home depot. I use the standard analog timer ...so super cheap. The misting is using a Mistking system. They are on mistking timers. TBH, I do not use it. I use it only when I am away. I am currently trying to renovate my tanks. The main exoterra has been dismantled (components/plants wise). I am planning on implementing the misting in a major way and cutting down on my daily work). I would love to do a Rasp PI setup. I have always imagined on doing one. But I don't have the technical knowhow of how to accomplish it. Perhaps sometime in the future. But I don't think I will grow them in tanks forever. I really want to move on to a greenhouse: indoor or outdoor. Hope that helps. Let me know if you have any more questions. cheers Varun

I'm glad they did so well Cole. You are a fantastic grower and it is a true demonstration of your abilities to see those plants go from seed to adult to seed. Great job. I also love that you decided to make species seed. Please add me to the list. Perhaps now I can try some of this seed myself. Thanks for providing them. 1. Willy 2. roraima 3.
