Thanks Rubisco. I will try to find one on kijiji and see if I can experiment with that.

hey Rubisco,
That is a great job. I am pretty bad with splicing existing electronics like this. Could you provide more details on how to do this to a humidifier? I have been looking for a cheap chiller..but this would be a cheaper way to do this. Is this one of the sub-$100 humidifiers from Walmart? What brand/model is it?
thanks V

Good idea. One thing I would say is that sphagnum may not be a good choice for vertical walls. I have lost a lot of plants now (neps/cephs/seedlings of both) by sphagnum that has totally drowned plants/seedlings. So keep an eye out. I personally wouldn't recommend it to pot up ceph seed. Ceph seed can take a long amount of time to germinate and take even longer to establish and gain size. They may be lost in the moss before you even realize their existence.

Looking great as always Brad. Love how the greenhouse looks with the moss in your sphagnum video.

Hi Varun - This is a species that limps along for me. I've not gotten its cultivation down to where I am happy. I am certain soil mix is part of the problem. And it's doubly frustrating when everyone says soil mix doesn't matter - and yours is a perfect example! I have no doubt that it can grow well in a wide range of soil mixes. Most plants can. I knew a woman who grow some of the most impressive saguaro ( Carnegiea gigantea) cacti in posts I'd ever seen, from seed no less. The entire time she grew them in Miracle-Gro African Violet mix! It can be done, but it's much harder. Just so it's clear, I'm totally not upset with you, or really upset. It's just funny to me how people who have this species down are so casual with them, and I still can't get it dialed in. Frustrating. But to the point of being ridiculous for me. Hey Alex, Lets troubleshoot... what are your conditions? I eyeball my mixes...depending on how it feels in my hand. I use sphagnum peat, perlite and orchid bark as the primary mix for cephs/vfts. I have also on occassion used a orchid mix (sponge rock + bark + charcoal) thrown in instead of the other components with peat. I also have thrown in long fiber sphagnum in there. When I started with ceph cultivation, I stuck to the peat (40%), bark (30%), perlite (20%) and LFS (10%). The point of the mix is free drainage. The most important thing in my conditions that cephs didn't like was heat and lack of airflow. WHat is your lighting ? humidity? airflow? How far from the lights are your plants? cheers V

As long as the mix is open enough, the plants don't really care. I know someone on TF grew cephs in miraclegrow yard soil as well. lol

Thanks for taking the time to reply and thanks for the information. They definitely have some good features and I'm sure they are worth the price (on sale) but it was not in the budget this year. I'll be putting one on my wish list for next year and hopefully pick one up on sale. I checked out your growing thread and your plants look spectacular. For now I've picked up an aquarium to use while I get my collection started. Your welcome. Thanks for the comments. Just keep in mind... there may be variations on glass finish.. mine has this film like salt stain on it that I can't get out. So just keep an eye on the glass quality when u buy it.

I am using one right now. It is my biggest tank. No complaints..the seams/seals are good. No leaks unlike my first exoterra. I like the clean sliding front and the grill in front. I picked mine up at big als last year for black friday too.

Thanks. I do plan on enclosing it with a plexiglass or white board making almost like a fish tank around it. Basically a foldable box that I can remove whenever I need to take pics. But the idea is predominantly to have it adapt to the room humidity. Lets see. will know how it goes in 6 months.
