Hello to all my fellow members. I am the new owner of The Urban Bog. First of all I need to apologize to the members and clients who have tried to browse or order on our web site and have run into problems. I will do my best to resolve this issues as soon as possible, in the mean time here is an explanation regarding our tie to Old World Exotics and Keehn's carnivores
I began as a joint venture which was Old World exotics, I have since decided to rebrand the enterprise as I have separated from my initial business partner. I have recently acquired thousands of new plants from Kheen's Carnivores that I am in the process of adapting to a new environment and preparing for sale as soon as possible. Until then I ask for your patience and continued support a I work to provide you with the best possible Carnivorous Plants.
Our web site is ready, but we do not have all the plants available right now. We will have a selected number of plants for sale soon and we will try to provide everyone with the quality they are used to.
I am new in the carnivorous plant world. It started as a passion project and it has turned into a business. I hope all of my fellow members can give me the help and support so that we can continue to provide Canadian grown carnivorous plants to the public.
I thank you all for you're understanding and support.

Hello Regina,
Thank you for posting on our forum. Although our community is small, it is tight knit and we all support each other, I would hope to see support from any new vendor in Canada.
Although your post comes a little late in this conversation, it is good to see you participating. There is only a core group of active members here but for every member there a dozens of people that just visit to find out information or look for vendors. I truly believe that being an active member of the forum and doing updates or offers will help your business. Its free so why not! Matt from flytrapcare.com is a great example of this and I respect his business practices. He posts when there is something to share while not using the forum as a giant ad. He does this for us and doesn't even live in Canada!
This being said I would advise you to fix some of the errors on your website when you have time. Little spelling mistakes and incorrect information can reflect poorly on your business even if you do have amazing plants. Things like ".. with 3 of 6 different..." "1 and 3 year old" proper grammar never wins people over but will quickly deter people from ordering.
This is just a pet peeve of mine but all species should be labeled with a lower case letter and not capitalized. Dionaea Muscipula should be Dionaea muscipula.
I hope you can take my advice to help further your business and not take it as negative criticism. I'm sure many of us look forward to hearing more from you and ordering your plants.
Justin

Speaking of errors and pet peeves the formatting of the units is going to give me an aneurysm or worse. You switch between cm and inches at a whim, spell some numbers randomly, and in the Sarracenia section give measurements for pot size, plant height, and an unknown parameter.
Otherwise the site looks better than it did since the last update.
Also welcome to the forum.

It would be nice to have a statement that a certain person is not involved with the Urban Bog. This should reassure potential buyers.

Thank you all for your kind encouragement, and suggestions. I am the only owner of the Urban Bog, and I am a novice in any horticultural activities, so the help of many of you is going to be invaluable. The company is managed by myself, my greenhouse manager Jackie, Christine in admin, and my french speaking web designer Catherine. We also count with Rick Keen's as our advisor. The errors in the website are slowly being corrected. Slowly but surely we are getting everything organized and in place. The issues you are experiencing are because Rick trying to help us, "outed" the company before we had things ready. I thank you all for your constructive criticism and I will take every piece of advice offered. Regina

Hi everyone. Yes, as Regina has indicated, we’ve worked things out and I’m on the team. There will be some delays in the availability of certain plants as the immensity of the project she is putting together here is a tad overwhelming for everyone. At approximately 5 times the size of my nursery the infrastructure alone required to maintain the various species of CP’s is only half in place at this point. Fortunately, Regina has wisely surrounded herself with a crew of fantastically talented people whom she can depend upon to reach her goals. Thanks again for your patience. Rick

For those of you in the greater Vancouver area interested in Sarracennia and other cps, check out www.popspredatoryplants.com/They don't ship, but they do a number of farmer's markets in the GVA. You can view when they will be at these markets in the left hand bar on their website. It is getting late in the season for them now, but they will be around until the end of June. They have a good reputation, so they are worth visiting. -dvg

I've a minor gripe about Pop's Predatory Plants. I've tried to buy some plants off them a few times before.
They have/had open hours at their farm and each time I've shown up during those houses they were closed which no notice online. I've also tried to order some plants off him and meet up at one of the farmer markets, but that was like pulling teeth.
That being said, I was talking to his (possibly former?) supplier and there was some family drama last year I believe that may explain some things.

Thanks for your feedback Lucst.
There were some problems last summer, and it might be a good idea to phone them and confirm a meet with them in advance.
From what I have heard they are semi-retired and mostly do this for a hobby.

Just a heads up that our our garden center recently received a shipment of assorted plant material from the Urban Bog. Lots of nice stuff if you are on Vancouver island / Victoria area. Hope all is well with everyone! ~Nolan@Wildwood Waterscapes / Cannor Nursery
