Yes, its a flower stalk Some vfts have this genetic, but its very rare. If you got seeds from these plants, the seedlings will probably do the same. Congrats !

...Maiden, have you ever had this happen to any of your seedlings?, did you let them flower? Is it possible for a Dionaea seeling to flower at 2 months old? Can't be.

Crazy, I've seen pygmy VFT that flower at that size as adults but never 2 month old seedlings!
Congrats on the strange and cool progeny Amanito.

Thanks Roraima, I probably won't be snipping these off to promote more leaf and trap growth. I'm actually very curious to see what they will grow up to be.

I had a seedling in 2011 that flowered. I had a picture but I can't find it. . I don't have any of my seedlings from 2011 either unfortunately. I read that they do this because of stress. Here's a thread on cpuk: www.cpukforum.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=54566

If you let it flower it's almost a sure thing it will die. I would totally cut the spike and see if it is genetic. Raise them up so it can survive setting seed and see if the next seedlings do the same thing.

The seedling that I had just divided in two and kept growing, though it was a little older than Gabriel's. Maiden: Interesting. I wonder if the mutation causes them to flower early and continue growing to a normal size, or if they are already at their max size. I have had Drosera flower as seedlings a couple times and they just continued to grow to maturity. Right now I have a couple pygmies which are flowering early as well.

Devon: Good question. As far as i know, the lil plant continue to grow at normal size. Also i never saw a drosera seedling in bloom, quite interesting! I think you have a real green thumb. Gabriel: here a more complete thread: www.flytrapcare.com/phpBB3/it-s-genetic-t5385.htmlMatt is the owner of flytrapcare store & forum. Ask him any question you want, he is truly a dionaea genius. And im proud to say he is also a personnal friend All the seeds grown vfts i sold last spring are from him.

The only Drosophyllum I ever germinated grew to 2 cm high, flowered and died after a month or two.

...thanks for all the input guys. After checking out the threads on the other forums it turns out that this is really not that rare, probably just a 'Dionaea Caprice'. Anyways, I found another one. 440 Jan 28 (1246x1280) by mrvirosa, on Flickr ...so that's 3, but they are all very different. I will be leaving the stalks. Cheers!
