Awesome! Looks like a pretty big flower for such a young/small plant. Also looks like the flower has allot fewer stamens that a typical flytrap flower.
Thanks for sharing.

...it stopped producing traps when the flower stalk started going up. You can see the only 2 it produced in the first pic, so yes the flower is probably 3 or 4 times the size of the plant! So now comes the question............do I try to pollinate it???, I have a few more of these that haven't flowered yet, do I try to cross pollinate when they do? .....or will they just eventually abort and die like Maiden said....

Now that's really cool! Congratulations on your flower and your little taste of spring in this bitter cold.
the traps stop likely due to the amount of energy required to create the flower. If it were me I would count this as a cool experience and cut all of the other stalks off to let the seedlings concentrate on growing and not flowering. I agree with maidens theory that they will likely abort.

...I will be leaving all of the flower stalks. I probably have several hundred seedlings so if I lose a few it'll be ok. More pics to come...

I think that if they are healthy they will divide instead of die. The one seedling that I had did this, but I didn't pollinate the flower so it didn't use any energy on seeds.

...here is seedling flower #2 (not the one I was hoping for). This stalk is much longer than the first one that flowered for me. 441 Mar 02 (1280x960) by mrvirosa, on Flickr ...it was still closed yesterday. Cheers!

...here is seedling flower #3, not quite the 'piece de resistance' I was hoping for but nevertheless it is pinkish and reddish and not entirely white. This is the one from the very first pic in this thread. Cheers! 543 Mar 4 (1280x960) by mrvirosa, on Flickr ...only -2 today, spring is almost here!!! I think I will try to cross pollinate #2 and #3 and see what happens.

Hey guys, here is seedling flower #4 011 Mar 15 (1280x960) by mrvirosa, on Flickr ...this one is from a different batch that I seeded about a month later than the batch that the first 3 seedling flowers are from. I have it noted that seeds in this batch started cracking on Dec 31. That would make this one not even 3 months old. Thanks for looking!

...hey guys, this is #6, it's probably about triple the size (height) of any of the previous ones. There is one behind it that has already flowered, the red one (I think), it is much smaller. The bud on this one is also 2 or 3 times the size of the others. Should be a huge flower. 642 Mar 23 (1280x960) by mrvirosa, on Flickr Cheers!

...nope, here is #6, the previous big one will be #7. This one I transplanted while it was a bud and it still popped. After transplanting some 250 VFT seedlings into individual pots I've got potting these up down to a science. Thanks Curlingguy for making me re-examine my methods. Sadly though , I am still not finished. (I'M REALLY SICK AND TIRED OF WASHING SAND!!!!!!.......AAAAAAAGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!! 109 Mar 26 (1280x960) by mrvirosa, on Flickr ...thanks for looking .
