great tip lloyd! Do you remove it once the plant have sprout and the shell is held on cotyledons, or before sowing, right after seed coat sterilization? If its the latter, its a heck of a job!

You have to remove the seed coat right at the beginning. I do it when they are dry and the coat is brittle. I basically rub them between two little plastic medicine cups. You need something firm enough to do the job but soft enough not to damage the inner seed. I stop frequently to remove the inner seeds to avoid damaging them. At the end I throw away the black seed coat. It's quite labour-intensive but saves a lot of time and annoyance. I find some of the VFT seeds have a mould fungus inside the seedcoat which is not affected by decontamination. Or maybe all the seeds have it but most of the seeds have microscopic cracks which lets the decontamination chemicals inside so the mould is killed. Only the perfectly intact seeds would continue to harbour the fungus. Do you think anyone else has figured this out? Maybe I will be famous!

Very impressive hackerberry. I can't wait to see my little seedlings looking like that. The seeds I put in vitro on the 11th of February still haven't shown any sign of germination yet.
Of the ones that I put into cultures back in November, only 3 germinated and they are doing ok since a recent replate about 2 weeks ago.

Thanks Matt, the thing with TC is you only need one seed to sprout and from there you can multiply them by the hundreds. I will take time and a lot of effort. Can't wait to put mine in the multiplication medium.

I agree hackerberry. I can't wait to get a bunch of plants from the three seedlings I was able to successfully get to germinate in vitro.
