Most contamination seems to be from systemic moulds.

Nice germination. I'm not sure about the other guys but I stick the seeds about 2-3 mm below the surface. That way the seedling will be able to get nutrients and water easily and the roots will establish themselves later in the gel.
You should be able to poke them back in without contamination, especially if you used PPM. Get your "glove-box" ready-spray with alcohol. Flame a forceps a few times, put it into a flask of alcohol (when the flame dies off!). Put the bottle + forceps in alcohol in the glove box. Carefully, with as "sterile" technique as possible, poke the root ends 2-3 mm into the medium. Then reclose the bottle.

Hi Lloyd,
I was just talking to sdeering a couple of minutes ago and he mentioned "replate". I guess I will just replate them in a week. BTW, in the other post, I will send you some darlingtonia seeds. I still have some to spare, thanks to Flytrap.

Nicely done HB! I'm impressed with your VFT germination.
I didn't get any germination from the Dionaea seed or the S. leucophylla "Hurricane Creek White" seed. I'm kind of mad about it too. I got it from the ICPS seed bank and I'm guessing it was old stuff. There wasn't a date on it.
I am getting decent germination from the seed I collected from my "Dana's Delight" and the S. oreophila, but like you, I set the seed on top of the agar in most cases. I'll probably have to replate them sometime in the near future, probably the next time I try tissue culture again.
I'm probably going to give things another go in a few weeks. I have some new Dionaea seed and I'm pretty sure it's fresh. Also, one of my typical VFTs that I repotted in October decided to put up a flower stalk. It's growing slowing, but I'm waiting for it to get big enough to try to cut it up and put it into TC.

Hello flytrapcare.com,
I found out that they germinate faster under high amount of light. If the vft seeds in your TC are fresh, just give it lots of light and a few more weeks. Congrats on your germinated seeds. Keep us posted.

Unfortunately I've had them in intensely bright light since November 18th and not one Dionaea or Hurricane Creek White leuco seed has shown any sign of germination. I'm pretty sure that the seed was too old, but maybe they just need more time. Also, I forgot to mention that I stratified them with GA3 (Gibberellic Acid). Perhaps that is the cause for the lack of germination. I never stratify Dionaea seed and I usually get 90% germination. When I try with the next batch of Dionaea seed, I'm not going to stratify them.

Flytrapcare,
The age of the seeds might be the reason. I always use GA3 for seed germination of Temperate CPs and also had at leat 98% germination. Wait a little longer, patience is a virtue. Good luck on your seeds. Update us!

I've never stratified VFT's and they always germinated. Sarr's, I usually stratify, GA3 or both if I have time to wait, with excellent germination.

Thanks Tael,
Will do once the replate is successful. If not, I will post the types of moulds that can infect a TC specimen, hehe.

Good luck to me. Now I'm gonna try Nep seeds using AHick's N1 formulation.
