Rare exotic seeds - germination rate: didn't counted, but twice sarracenias were quite good, third time not (placed them on additional stratification), cephaloptus 10 seeds - nothing for a two month, nepenthes mix - good, but not all kinds of seeds germinated yet (more than two months), least successfull with pigmy and SA drosears - these that germinated - were at 32C, strange that summer heat didn't helped for the first batch. But I can't usually keep even grown droseras alive...

I've tried the Rowland English place twice with very poor results. Also Rare Exotic Seeds once with no results. I do tend to try CP's that are difficult like epiphytic utric seeds. Niagara is the one source of seeds and seedplants that has been very reliable. If you want to grow Sarracenia from plants or seeds, I would trust them.

Heres another non canadian retailer, but I had a quick look and it was very effortable. They carry only neps in vitro I believe. Also, All other paperwork including CITES, Export Permits, and Phytosanitary Certificates will be supplied free of charge by Malesiana Tropicals. www.malesiana.com/html/home.htmIt sounds good ;D Oh, there were some pics of plants from there on CPUK and it looked pretty healthy www.cpukforum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=383&highlight=alata

We used to have a extensive list of Canadian vendors on the old site, I will try to look up the info and post it here.
That being said out of what I have seen posted Zephyrus orchids nice healthy Neps however not much selection and one of them did come miss labelled. I received healthy plants from Hawaiian botanicals but did find them a little pricey compared to some others. I ordered several times from Cooks... well that's a mixed blessing when the plants did arrive alive they were healthy and no complaints... the other times well not such a good experience.

About Rare exotics seeds: I e-mailed him , since it is said that all seeds are fresh and carefully selected and that a lot of CP seeds he sells are quite rare in cultivation and/or to flower + pollinate. He ended up by saying what I thought: Most (not all) the seeds are originally from Allen Lowrie. I had bad experience about plants ID and germination rate in the past from this source (I have nothing against the guy, just that some of the seeds are deceiving about this point ), so I prefered not to order there

I've never ordered from Malesiana before. Any thoughts by any of you? I have ordered from Robert Cantley (formerly ISRA Exotics, now Borneo Exotics) with great satisfaction. I've also ordered from Geoff Mansell (Exotica Plants) with unhappy results...but this was when they first opened their nursery in Australia, so maybe it's better now. My neps arrived from the Mansells in December (their summer), had little or no roots...thus died after a month of struggling. Hey... but I've heard nothing but good things about Exotica now.

I haven't ordered from Malaesian Tropicals yet, but have looked into them and have yet to find anyone with something bad to say. Apparently they are very comparable to BE and tend to be cheaper. Once we get the board finalized, we will be doing a group order to MT. Sib

Syble: about MT being cheaper, do you kno the size of their plant? I tried to compare the price, but I don't seem to be able to find the size of plants in general...
Never ordered from there either, only from Wistuba and Best Carnivorous Plants

I seam to recall being told that they are atleast established 4" pots. Some times they specify smaller, or extra large or even that it is a rooted cutting. People assure me that I will not be dissapointed. Sib

Hey Group, I know this is abit confusing, but CPCAN has changed its name to Niagara Carnivores granted the URL is still the same www.vaxxine.com/cpcanI have to say, I just like the name better. and hopefully I will get a domain secured again. Anyway, I'll be dividing up many of my Sarracenia later this spring and early summer. Many of them will be available for sale this summer. If you're interested in Sarracenia check back in July for a complete list. I also have to appolgize publicly for not having a new seed list this year. We moved to Niagara Falls, in January of last year, and I was unable to get my greenhouse setup until the end of march. Well by that time, keeping my collection in the basement the plants started to send up flower stalks. In order to help destress the plants I removed all the flowers. Happily all the plants did very well this past year and they are sending up new flowers and looking very healthy. I hope to play "billy bee" and have a good selection of seed available for this fall. Best purpman
