Thanks Tom for the welcome. I am really happy to have been dirested to this forum, there seems to be such knowledgable peeps here. I am sorry I only partially answered your question. May be if you could let me know what I missed I could maybe expand? Like I stated I am really new at any CP's only started growing them last year and I am really looking forward to recieving advice from you all. Trihoderma, wheter it be a harziaum or atroviride or a virens is not a silver bullet but more a life style change, kinda like learning to eat healthier, but still working out. IPM is the basic concept. Thanks again Kelly Thhanks for the intro Butch

Hi True242, What is the effectiveness of trichoderma to ink patch fungus....the one with which my ceph seems to be suffering Also please tell me if I can put some direct trich powder over the CROWN and growth points of the ceph and if it will protect the top parts as well. Also, is it ok if the powder gets into the liquid in the pitchers? thanks, varun

Hi Varun Do you know what the name of the fungu is that causes the ink spot disease? That would help alot. As i mentioned earlier I am a newbie to CP's and I have noticed that some of your diseases on your CP's are refered to as differently than the are on regular plants. Is it Ciborinia whetzelii?

alright so once you guys sort everyhitng out ill take some of the mix, i build a setup inside and things turned out awesome n now i can easily watch my plants grow alyear round, iv been studyin the info supplied by briar n what not but im not confident enough to try n get in this conversation
so if there is some ampac bitech comin to CAN im in , also Tom ill take someof what your sellin bud i think were both in alberta so were sytlin, hopefully you have some left to spare since bi-controls seems to be all the rage these days haha

Hmmm...I am not sure...I can't find anything about the true fungus that might be involved for cephs. I don't even know if its a fungus or not. But the black seems like it. In either case, do u think it would help? would it somehow help protecting and in any case, could it starve out the other pathogenic fungus?
thanks,
var

V, I have applied trichoderma to the upper parts of cephs many times, I had a botrytis attack earlier this year under one large clump... I put a little granular in a straw, carefully worked the straw under the clump and gave it a little puff... just don't hiccup! LOL worked great... the plant fully recovered and has increased in size many times over now to your question about the trich in the pitchers themselves, again going by my own experiences, I have applied my cocktail via misting many times... but to be honest I've not done this in a while, only because i haven't seen the need or the advantage, but with your situation it may be ideal... I definitely would apply some directly to the problem areas I was also concerned about breathing in the cocktail LOL, bacillus does have a very nasty spp ya know (bio weapon) side note: IIRC Heli's use Bacillus spp. to breakdown their prey, I would have to dig through my notes to verify tho also since trichoderma is the most common soil borne culturable fungus, i would have to assume it is carried into the pitchers all the time in the wild by ants or whatever beetle happens to get trapped now in regard to using sulphur... I simply cannot comment as I have not used it on my cephs... but I know others have I can post a photo journal of the granular tric being used to cure that botrytis attack...I did send a copy of it to a few people including Carl some months ago for their evaluation ill have to retrieve the photos from another hard drive... maybe by next weekend, but on second thought I think they are in a post over at TF... Ill have to verify and get back with ya mate HTH's Butch on and BTW, since you are having fungal issues... stop feeding the pitchers with fish food and use a weak orchid mix, may help a little.. just a thought N and P are most efficiently taken from the pitchers whereas K, Mg, Ca and other trace nutrients are most efficiently taken from the soil media.. with P intake at the pitcher normally being the driving factor for uptake efficiency (Adamec L., 1997)

Briar, are you using special orchid fertilizer for foliar feeding or the regular balanced orchid one? Thank you

LOL, just be gentle V... and dip it in your trich mix for a few mins, cut away anything that is rotten..
nuttin to fear but fear itself... ey
oh and just typical orchid mix, hmmm 20-14-13 I think, pretty weak... start off with a couple pitchers and if all is well go from there
when the plant is young i use cotton swabs and apply to all surfaces i can get too... once i can get my eye dropper into the pitchers i go that route, once a month or so
just start off extra week and work up to where you feel comfortable, your max will depend on the plants ability to process it... (light, genetics, etc etc etc) better too weak then too strong
sticky... I have a friend who swears by worm casings...

then just give it a good drenching with your tric mix, no worries
I like mixing a teaspoon/gallon... but that is prob overkill on my part
in my cocktail i use a teaspoon of each component to one gallon of RO
after a day or two or three, the evidence of it's usage becomes pretty obvious... (assuming i have not top watered since drenching)

just wondering how purpmans four giant cephs are doin??
since i brought mine inside and put in my new setup theyve really takin a liking to it, iv got 3 pitchers and prob 5 leafs ill post a pic later
syb, rick, ?? did we figure out who got the fourth??
also since indside newsetup im waterin much more frequently every 2-3 days
once the ceph completely dried gave me a scare, wasent exspecting such a rapid evaporation change since switching, when outside all summer i water biweekly prob more
also is 45%-50% humidity alright or will it stunt growth iv added a new plant which is messin with the system i believe im ridding of it CP's first i hate watchin a plant strugglin in the wrong conditions so i gotta go one or the other
also 12 hour photoperiod cool or should i do the 10??
