Like with most plants, everyone has their own way to grow every plant, some are textbook, and others are creative. I thought it would be a good idea to have a thread for us to post pictures of the cephs we have and include information like they type of ceph, growing medium, pot size, temps, lights, and anything else relative. Thanks, Sib (And I know Jay has LOTS of relavent information!)

I use the Savage Garden soil mix in plastic white pots. I water usually every second day in the summer and less often in the winter to keep the soil always wet. It's very humid in my terrariums, more so in the winter when it's closed to keep the cold from the windows out. It can get really hot if it's sunny and I forget to open the lid enough.

Currently, mine is/are in LFS. I keep them in a little dish in a 3" pot. I try to fill the tray/dish every 4-5 days or so, once it dries out I make sure air has gotten through the whole thing then re-fill
I keep it in a south-facing windowsill
I know several folks have seen my "setup" but for those who haven't, that's the whole deal. I keep a Heliamphora in the exact same conditions, it does well too
I am STILL trying to get pics together but it's SLOW going dammit

putfile for pics seems to be working good for me, cant post the huge pics like some sites but very quick and eazy
so i just ploped mine right in side my setup hidding behind all the other bigger plants to block the sun, LFS medium im going with since that seems to be the winner
humidity is always in 70-80% day, 100% nights
temp stays arround 80's rarely 90's F 75degrre F most days as thats what i read is optimal growing conditions, thats what i strive for OH n low nights 40's 50's F
CEPH is definitely my Jem allthough its nothin other then a root its still the one i tweak the setup 2
So Jay all eyes on you eh, sounds to me like Vreav could borrow your green thumb he seems to be strugglin with his lmao playin vreav

well...I seriously don't know how my growth point got burned. SInce I got it ... it was under a hotter light and it grew well. Then....I gave it a better light which is infact cooler and more intense...T8 and put it closer and then it got burnt. But interestingly the pitchers finished and all and they still look tip top. I can see small beetles in there.

Well here goes , i think i have repeated this already somewhere on this message board . Cephalotus Follicularis Soil mixes that i have found to work the best for me are, silica sand/ peat mix 2:1 ratio. Its in savage garden , i have found the best root growth from plants grown in this mix. it drys out at a moderate rate which is good for the cephs. Haveing the plants water logged or soaked all the time can lead to rotting out of the crown. L.F.S. long fibred sphagunum moss is good for cuttings. Thats all i use it for after they are rooted i place the plants in the peat/silica mix. I find that if your not careful in your watering it tends to stay to wet and lead to fungus problems i have tried lots of differnt soils, one plant i grew only in ball cypress shredded bark ( it grew but stayed on the small side . water on a try system , let the stuff dry out a little inbetween waterings , over head is bad can cause fungal problems again . The plants do enjoy abit of air flow on them in really humid conditions (also easy way to prevent fungus) The plants hate being disturbed not as much as drosphyllum, but none the less Light sunny bright , odds are any one growing cephs on this message board will have the plants in pots so don't let them get to overheated they do like it on the cool side . And never ever feed them after midnight umm wait thats gremlins , Fish food bugs nothing to large it can rott out the plant if its too much like any cp. now i do have to keep some of my growing secrets to myself

Is Jay is referring to the ritual blood feedings at the full moon?
I always overhead water my ceph's and I wonder if that's the cause of a blackish stuff on some of the smaller pitchers? It doesn't seem to be harmful but doesn't look great. I'll try tray watering for a while and see what happens.

Blood feeding on a full moon is only for tulips get it straight , toe nail clippings and a new moon for ceph's

I think I got the one you grew in cypress mulch, not sure what typical ceph pitchers max out at but so far its kicking out pitchers about 1.5" tall... not too shabby in my books! Thanks for sharing your insight. I'll be transplanting that ceph in a week into the typical medium, just as soon as my pots come! Thanks, sib

hmm...jay, The one you gave me is in sphag. Do u think I should repot it as well? I don't want to repot a ceph....that thing seems to be more grumpy than a rajah.

Yes vraev the plant i gave was in its rooting sphag, normally i'll say change it , but this time let it be just give it lots of love and time to beef up before you try anything , thats how i deside on how and when to do thing to a ceph , be it cuttings or transplanting let the plant tell you by its look... i know that sounds gay but bare with me it works ,
