It can never hurt to plant whatever is left and see what happens. This reinforces my plans never to put CP's outside. The squirrels are destroying about 4 ripe tomatoes a night and making a mess of them, not even eating most of the fruit.
Sib: Was your boyfriend's dad really savaged by squirrels? How was he (they?) brought back? My condolences.

sorry about that lisa. hmm... If I were u, I would rather take one of those root bulbs, make cuttings from them and in a few months u will end up with insane number of plants. These you probably need not set dormant..so u can grow them all the way till next yr's dormancy. About ordering new plants now, hmm,....talk to Rick Keehns at keehns carnivores. Ask him if he has some plants that are freshly acclaimatised to soil from TC. Those plants u can probably grow all the way again till next winter. Thats how my big VFT's are. They haven't had a dormancy yet...which is another reason for me to worry as my last trial dormancy with a couple didn't go that well.

What you could do is put them in the fridge for an early dormancy... Just a thought! Cya

Well... Liz ... you've now got the badge of CP honour. I think each of us gets slammed in the head when a : 1. Crow 2. Squirrel 3. Slug 4. pesky kid
shreds apart one of our beloved CPs.
HOpe the little guy recovers. If not, you've got lots a friends here to help rebuild.

If there's any "white stuff" left, you will probably see the thing regenerate. A long time ago, I had a few "typicals" and each time a leaf would start to die off, I would pull it off of the bulb along with the white base and just stick it in the soil. After a year, I must have had 100 plants.
Now that I have a bunch of new forms that are quasi-established, I am going to propagate them the same way so I'll have a bunch for my bog garden, as well as for others who have been generous to me in the past.

Same thing happened to me last year right around this time- my brand new MONSTER Akai Ryu got it- I went out and looked at the pot and there was NOTHIING LEFT except for some shreds. I thought the thing was done for but dutifully repotted the remains- it looked awful for months, but about 2 months ago it had pretty much indicated it would fully recover
It is now a HUGE specimen- I should be able to post a pic tomorrow, keep yer fingers crossed. Sorry to hear about yer loss Lisa- my CP "fortress" serves me well- maybe try a hamster cage if you want to keep them outside?? That's what I do and it works real welll

The hamster cage sounds like a good idea. I may try it next year.

Hamster Shmamster cage. Hey you guys... let's breed a Nep that can eat those tree rats. Let's see... a large truncata pitcher is set full of acorn nuts. Squirrel goes in... and truncata gets protein meal ... A trap the way mom Nature likes it. No seriously, I have squirrel problems over here. I've tried everything but hadn't much luck. So I now grow my prized specimens outdoors in an enclosure with 40" high glass walls so no critter can scale it (other than slugs and treefrogs). I'll snap a photo later to show. This works fairly good for me. The glass walls keep out the unwanted, and maintains humidity and also serves as a wind break. The sarrs grow extremely well in this glass corral.

very sad to here evil queen, i take it those were the ones you were exsperimenting with the full sun right from kheen carnivours?? i cant relate actully i havent lost anything yet suprisingly i even got all the H minors to come back to life after my shreddin so im sure youll be ok but take this as a lesson, when i desined my setup it served all the pursposes that flytrap had covered, including all the animals craving my plants. i even spread birdfeed outside so i can watch them, and also kill the crows that had been gettin on my nerves
2 days ago when working , at the flooring stores they have a new TILE WETSAW TENT which would work perfectly for anyone who wants to get creative and create there own setup no joke itd be perfect it attaches to the ground has reinfoced aluminum cage and covered in heavy duty clear plastic , its perfect size has a zip open door from roof to floor and prob 3' x 4' x 5' (if not bigger)which is also shaped like a house with angled top which could also be used to catch rianwater and whatnot in my opionion this would work perfectly but would take a lil work and construction and creativity but would allow for great viewing of all plants and also great protection form elements when put outside, which it should be all the time power could also very easily be incorperated for extra light if needed, i know this would work great in the summer n spring but fall n winter could be a diff story
if you fail to plan then you plan to fail thats my half dollar
