...just curious Kdawg, have these been receiving the same Maxsea treatment as some of your Sarracenia, posted elsewhere? Thanks.

Hi Kdawg - Beautifully grown little jaws you have going there! Those little critters are lucky to have found themselves germinated by you.

Thanks for the kind words. It has been a fun process and I owe much of these plants success to the awesome members of the forum as I did a lot of lurking here reading in preparation. mackthompson, I pretty much grow these seedlings like I grow the Sarraceniaceae characters which are my true love in the CP world. This link explains the basic conditions... ocps.proboards.com/thread/7802/stratification-strat If you ever need more detail I am happy to share. amanitovirosa I've read all your seedling threads so I look forward to buying you a beer one day to thank you! These pots in the pics where not Maxsea treated. I tried it on two pots of "Big Mouth" and it pretty much stopped all growth almost instantly (foliar) perhaps a flood tray feeding may result in different results but I didn't want to risk it.. I have leached them for a month and they are just starting to recover and grow again.

...well, it appears that things are moving along just famously at the Seed Asylum haha, come to my meet up and I'll buy YOU the beer! I asked about the Maxsea because your Flytraps look very vigorous and you've posted that your Sarrs are responding very well to it, strange that the VFT's don't. I don't use the stuff because I don't have any.

I think I need to invest in a heat mat!

...in my experience, high quality seed is all important. When I did something similar to what Kdawg is doing here I purchased Dionaea seed pretty much from all over the globe. Under identical conditions, some did very well and some did not at all. Flytrap seed is easy to germinate (there's no need for a particular star alignment in the cosmos for germination to take place, like Heliamphora, POP ALREADY!!!.....arghhhhhh!!!), but I think bloodlines and freshness are key to success. I am assuming Kdawg probably produced his own seed so he can attest to its quality. My two cents. Happy Growing!

mackthompson, Yes, I believe heat mat and a dome over the flat for humidity is important. I try to think... North Carolina on a warm spring day. amanitovirosa, you nailed it! good seed is a must. I trade H20 beer, chicken fingers and maple smoked salmon for seed. I also give half the plants to him (or anyone else who shares seeds)once germinated and stable. I'd love to share some Maxsea with you to play around with. I believe Justin is doing some Maxsea mailing in the near future so we can figure something out. Id love to hear your thoughts/results on the stuff.

...I will most likely be getting something from Justin once I see the list, maybe I'll be able to include some Maxsea in my order. D'Amato raves about it in his book. I will be Sexing Venus (separate thread) this Spring/Summer. Never tried anything like what I plan on doing before, if I am successful I should have some pretty interesting cultivar crossed seed. I can shoot some your way if you'd like, for a chicken finger or two. . Cheers! AV.
