I've finally decided to give these another try from seed.
I currently have five separate seed lots of these in cold stratification.
I'll leave them for a month and then attempt germination with them.
These will be grown in 8" terra cotta pots, as well as one larger terra cotta pot, just to see if there is any difference in the growing of these.
Anyone else growing these out from seed?

...I've got some stratifying right now, they're due out in 2 weeks, and then I'll be trying to germinate them. First time for me with these.
Cheers, Gabriel

I found them really easy to germinate. I think I used GA3 or cold stratification. Mine died well after the seedling stage. They didn't survive the benign neglect that works well with sarr seedlings.

I have some 1 1/2 years old seedling growing in my HL tank. I grow them in LFS in a plastic pot. The seeds were fresh and I didn't stratify them because I had problem with stratification until I found the paper/ziplock/peroxide method. I put them under a humidity dome until they sprout then lower the humidity slowly. Here they are P1080702 par Shoggoths, sur Flickr

Nice seedlings Shoggs! 1 1/2 years old and some are already developing adult pitchers, very nice! I cold strat my seeds in live sphagnum for a month in the fridge then just sow the seeds in a clean yogurt container full of live or long fiber sphagnum. If the seeds are fresh and you keep the pot in a relatively cool spot in a grow box or terrarium, under lights, you should get close to 100% germination. Unfortunately I've found them to be very slow growers, that in some ways become increasingly more demanding with age. I've also had good success just germinating seeds outdoors, but the temperate west coast climate makes that much easier. Here is an almost 2 1/2 year old seedling still stuck in the Mr. Snuffleupagus stage. Even the Snuffleupagus pitchers have obvious fenestration's.

Great response guys - Thanks! Amanito, that's good news, mine will be coming out of cold strat on April 29. I bet you're getting excited to see these pop for you. Lloyd, I found them easy to germinate as well, but mine previous attempt didn't fare too well on a seedling mat after they had germinated so well. This time I intend to keep the roots considerably cooler than last time. Shoggoths, those are some sweet looking Cobra seedlings. Do you feed your plants, either with fertilizer or feeders such as springtails? Roraima, Cobra seedlings look so odd in that awkward long-snouted stage of development, but they are very cute nonetheless. Have you tried to feed your Darlings with anything to possibly speed them along faster? Good luck to you all with these and hopefully we'll be seeing mature pitcher shapes in a year to two. Do any of you have locale info for your seedlings? It seems I have three mountainous types, one lowland variety and one called "Red Tongues", which might just be from someone's plant in cultivation. Here is a link to Cobras in situ. thepitcherplantproject.com/blog/tag/darlingtonia/Scroll down, have a look at them growing at different sites, and ENJOY! dvg

Wow, thanks for the site DVG.
Nice plants Roraima! I like the fenestration.
DVG, I don't have any localization info. I can't even remember if the seeds came from Bonfield or Jan ... As for feeding, there's drosophyles crawling in my tank so they could catch some but I don't manually feed them. They grow way better since I remove the LFS that came back to life and was starting to cover them.

I got my seeds off eBay from the Czech Republic so I have no idea as to their locality. I expect the seeds to be good because everything else I bought off this guy (Drosera, VTF, Ping) is germinating like crazy. If anything goes wrong it'll probably be my fault. Really nice seedlings guys!!!

The differing forms of Darlintonia have really been on my mind lately. I've been looking through Barry Rice's CP book and seem to be glued to his pages about the six pigmentation patterns that he's noticed on these Cobras. All of my Cobra seeds came from the Czech Republic too. So now I'm really hoping for some nice variations in my seed lots which consist of 3 Mountain forms, one of which is called Giant Plant from the Siskiyou Mts, Del Norte Co. California. The other two sets of Mountain seeds are from the Sierra Nevada Mts. in California - Plumas Co. and Nevada Co. As well, I have seed stratifying from the Gasquet, California location listed at 100m in elevation. Also in cold strat, are a bunch of "Red Tongues", with no locale info, so these might be from someone's plant in cultivation, I'm not sure. And last but not least is this seed factory which is still under construction. Hopefully in a few months time i'll be seeing seedlings from my own plant. dvg

Shoggoths, care to elaborate on the peroxide/water stratification tek?
I ordered seeds a while ago but had trouble paying for them. Too bad I forgot to re-order them, it's probably too late to start them now huh?
Those seedlings look great. Such vibrant colours.

Hi Devon,
It's pretty easy and you have perhaps seen this method elsewhere.
I put 1 tea spoon of peroxyde in 1 cup of water. I lay the seeds on coffey filter paper (I prefer it to scott towel because the seedlings roots usually can't grow in it) The put a small amount of the water mixture on the paper and press it to remove any excess The I put the paper in a ziplock, add a few drop of the water mixture and close the bag with an amount of air inside so that one of the filter face don't touch the plastic Then I put the bag in the fridge for 4 or 6 weeks. That's it, work like a charm for me, even for small seeds. Although, small seeds remain hard to sow and remove from the paper.

...Greetings, my Cobra seeds are sprouting, even after I messed up the stratification. A lot of my media washed away through the holes in the strawberry container they're in, and some seeds too, I'm sure. Mar. 14 - put into stratification. Strawberry container in a ziplock bag in a paper bag, a bit of water in the ziplock, in the shed. Apr. 10 - put under lights in a heated chamber. 16 hpp. Apr. 21 - noticed germination! ...Like I said, it's my first time with these, I think I may have gotten lucky. (The seeds on the bottom section of the container are Sarracenia, the Cobra seeds are at the top) Happy Growing!

Congrats on your germination success AV! Mine are going to come out of cold strat this coming week. Now I just have to get their pots ready for their arrival. Best of luck with your seedlings! dvg
