The leaves may turn black and rot and it'll go back to a little vegetative bulb under the soil, kind of like a small onion. Sometimes the leaves hang on over dormancy, though. Once it feels like waking up in spring you'll see new leaves sprouting. It may send up a flower stalk as well.

Ok will take that advice I panicked earlier and they are in a Ziploc bad with moist peat the person with the key is gone and I cannot get them until tomorrow I will replant them in peat and make them dormant next month by putting the whole pot in a baggie as opposed to bare-root in a baggie? I was just wondering if all the plants turn completely black where the new growth came from Is it ok to repot them now? About the flower stalk,if the plant is healthy enough after coming out,can I let it flower, get seeds then plant a piece of the stalk and get another plant?

Like hal said, try to leave your plant alone for a while. Its the classic case of death by too much love.

That all depends on how warm it is and how much light it receives. And if you keep playing with it, it will stunt its growth... Unlike other things...

Its in My bedroom so its fairly warm It gets either 10 or 12 hours a day under a LED light Right now its going into dormancy on its own I think, the one trap is gone concave and the leaves are shriveled most likely my fault I just replanted it and was talking to Jack from HB he told me to wait until Halloween and make it sleep until V-day then let it wake up on its own and I would be surprised how resilient they really are !!

I have 3 Venus Flytraps in dormancy' I was told to mist peat twice a month to keep it damp and cut out the chances of mold. I was also told I should put a baggie over the pot an in a tray reducing the water amount given to the plant. I am leaning toward misting as not to get root rot which way is right??

Can a VFT enter dormancy early?
I am asking because I think mine did! I had it in fresh damp peat with lots of light and it still died back and turned yellow on the leaves I put it in a tray, then ran a bottle of RO water through the media to wash out insects if there was some in the soil,,,there was not I put them in a cooler shed and checked them alot,no mold either !!I have no idea what happened ,peat water and light and it still did this, someone told me plants need to do thier own thing, was that the case for this?

Short-term using long-fiber sphagnum is fine for the flytrap. They just don't seem to do as well in it for the long haul. Sphagnum moss tends to break down faster than peat mixes, and when it does it looses air spaces in it.

I currently have my 2 regular flytraps and my Big Jaws in a cool shed for its dormancy. I mist the media until its moist for the 2 pots which now looks like 2 pots of dirt since it died back. I keep my plants in a unheated shed but keep the rainwater and my distilled water in my room so the water is fairly warm at room temperature. Before dormancy set in my regulars had 6 stems in one pot and 7 in the other My Big Jaws was erect and had 7 new stems. How long will I see any growth in spring? Since I keep my water at room temp and use this water on the plants,am I causing shock to the plants or any harm??

Does a vft cultivator needs the same temps as regulars? I have a big Jaws and 2 regulars all went in dormancy in the same place but the regulars seem to have co-operated better in cooler temps in my shed. by that I mean they seem to be doing better all are still alive(I Hope lol !!) My pots look like 2 pots of dirt when I mist the soil.I have been careful regarding temps but I am wondering will cold temps kill one before the other or at all.

If a person somehow joined a B 52 Flytrap plant and a DC XL Flytrap plant to get a new plant would that produce larger traps than the DC XL Flytrap? someone told me that it would.
