RONA has a very gritty silica sand, $10 for a very heavy bag, I think it's close to 16 grit.

I agree with Lloyd....... It IS a very heavy bag I got mine at a building supply place and it's was 12 bucks for 100 lb bag. I also washed mine until all the dust was gone. The stuff works great but boy does it scratch up your floors if you spill it.

Right Justin, I forgot to mention I washed it with a hose for 1/2 hour or so. I had to buy a RONA pail and leave half in the store, no way could I carry it.

I got mine at my local "Lordco" auto supply store. They ordered some in for me- it is used for sandblasting.

i get scared when you mention sand blasting sand. I had bought some sandblasting sand once, and it leeched something (even after much washing), made a black crust on the soil, plants declined, it sucked.... Sib

The stuff from RONA is not for sandblasting. I thought it was illegal to use silica sand for sandblasting due to the risk of silicosis. The RONA stuff is really pure silica. I just washed it to get rid of any dust for health reasons. The wash water was perfectly clean. I tested the sand after with a TDS meter and there was really no contaminants in the final wash (distilled water), just the expected dissolved silica. There is never any crust on the soil and no plant has been bothered by it.
