I know of a source where you can get Cypripedium parviflorum (a very closely related species)......or are you trying to add Cypripedium calceolus to your collection??

LOL David! I had no clue that this is a poisonous orchid or even that it can be found in canada. I was watching this documentary where this was spoken of as a very rare orchid in britain that came down to one plant in the wild and reintroduction efforts helped it re-establish in the wild. The documentary showed some nice snaps of the plant so I thought it would be cool to grow it. thanks Ellsie. But I am trying to find Cypripedium calceolus. I am not too big into orchids...but if I want to get something, I get only specific species.

Thanks soo much for the replies guys. Tom, thanks for the link...but I already sent Ya-Li orchids an email. THey never got back to me. THe thing about orchids is there are too many complex hybrids out there. I have seen similar colors in local orchids at sheridan nursaries...but I am particular on knowing the exact ID and getting species orchids. I find it very sad that natural species of orchids have become sooo rare and hard to obtain. I agree they are harder to grow, but hybrids can never carry the mystique of the species that evolved in nature.

I like it and all....but...lol! thats too expensive. I would rather get a nepenthes from hawaiian botanicals and that would be more satisfying for the money's worth. I am still searching for a cheaper source.

That orchid grows wild in Alberta, maybe all of Canada not sure.
I have some in my flower bed out side. Im not sure if I can spare any i will have to see what comes up this year.
If you are thinking of growing it in doors it may take some dooing because of it's winter dormacy.
They are very easy outside though. Stephen
