On a few other forums I look at there are Newby sections. I wonder if that would be a good idea here. It would be a good place for common questions like where to get VFT's and capensis, postal issues, etc. Someone new could start off there and maybe there could be a few pointers to beginner stuff. Also people tend to be more patient if someone presents themselves as a beginner.

If you want, I could try to make some sort of introduction to help guide newcomers. Whenever you update things.

This is a great idea. Especially when we can provide info related to our Canadian growing environment... and plants that are happy outdoors in our climate. For example... In my experience, all of the sarracenia species grow here on the west coast...including southern ones like psittacina and minor. But the plants that amaze me the most are the non-native temperate drosera species that somehow make it through a foot of snow and ice - d binata, d spatulata, d intermedia and our own native rotundifolia and anglica... oh and the happy weed - d capensis

A good idea, the "Germination Tray" or some such thing, where the basics are all covered.... I will write about how to care for U.subulata, especailly since I've received a few requests for the species lately (NO I'm not joking)

The newbie section is a good idea. Especially because here in Canada, the average CP collector has not reached the same level as, say, in Europe. We need to make the newbie feel warmly welcomed to our community. This way, we will contribute to the growth of our CP community! I know that sounds extrapolated, but we should try to expand our community with the help of all these little details.

Madubon, you've GOT to keep it quiet about the fact that you have U. subulata. It's a very desirable plant and is so rare that CITIES is creating a brand new category for it where you will need permits just to trade it with your next door neighbour

Maybe we should make a virtue out of necessity regarding U. subulata. We should hybidize it, select varieties and cultivars, grow tetraploids, different colours, giant flowers, dangerously large traps, etc. We could become the world leaders in subulata. So much for those hoity-toity Europeans! How about U. subulata var. Sib. to honour the founder of the OCPS?
