OCPS forum like others seem to ride small flurries of activity...days where there is lots of stuff happening, then nothing for awhile.
This forum was started by Sib last winter and has seen it's membership grow to 67. Do you think we can hit the magic 100 by year's end?
What can we do to attract more people?
How can we get the word out?
Do we give out "prizes" to those who refer the most new members?
Do we give prizes out to those who post the most?
How can we best use this forum to grow our friendships?
So far, in the short time since I've been here, it seems that a few of you are like life long friends. I've learned of a bad trader, nursery operator ... but most important, I've learned of some amazingly generous people, and have learned a lot of new things by reading and viewing your posts.
I bet you that a few of you have managed to acquire some real nice new plants through trades to people you've linked up here. Heck, I got a few real cool plants (and some frog eggs to boot!). This is really amazing. To give a perspective, it took me and my friends almost 10 years to expand our sarracenia collection to contain every known species (at that time)...this was back in the 80's - and most everything was grown from seed. And trades these days ...man, it can all happen within a week!
In the old days, we'd type out a growlist... post it in the mail, wait a couple of weeks... write back to negotiate a trade....wait another couple of weeks. Take a photo, get the lab to process the film and prints... Write a cheque or two, post it (or wait to receive it), clear the cheque. then post the plant in the mail. And usually, by the time you'd receive it by Canada Post, it would take another week or more (there were no "real" couriers , nor priority post). So, what you hook up with a trade negotiated in the spring, may take a whole growing season to accomplish (the trade).
Gadz, now with email, instant pictures and paypal...life is so nice.
So let's keep growing our little Canadian presence - write and contribute to this forum. Winter is coming around the corner...so keep those ideas flowing.
