I figured a new pole would be good change of pace from the typical posts. If there are any other media mixes that would be more appropriate feel free to post them here as well. ;D

As I said in the earlier thread: Peat + perlite gave me considerable success.

Usually I use peat/sand in about a 2-1 ratio, probably even closer to 3 parts peat 1 part sand. Seems okay!!

i do like pure LFS its easy to read the water in it but i also really like a more draining compressed medium were when waters dumped on it you can here it sucking more moisture and air in to the deeper soil, with a combonation of misitng and that medium is my reccomonded mix proboly
peat, LFS, sand 2/2/3??? maybe good ratio
also anyone heard of suger sand before???

Peat-send(1:1) works for me. Did not try any other mixes-can't compare.

50/50 peat perlite....easy to get, keeps things lighter in weight, works as well or better then peat/sand for VFTS at least.
Top dress with some LFS if plant big enough that it won't overgrow it.

Pure peat all the way for me. Works like a charm! More for practical dwelling reasons (I live in an apartment), so can't have too many soil types sitting around taking up space.

Varun- call around to autobody shops asking for sandblasting silica. If not, try the hot-tub filter sand others have mentioned. Silica Sand is what you want.
Sawchuck- never heard of "sugar sand" but silica looks like sugar to me
