so my most frequent food source for my plants is ants(except 4 VFT) but the ants find ways to make it on to my VFT's even if there totally surrounded by water( i believe they climb up top then fall on to them) when i wake in the morning i find them all over them, with many already closed but not catching anything then when they do actually catch one this is what happens they bite the end trying to escape, ruining the trap is this common with most bugs or just ants?? i found a ant infestation in my room which helped for feeding, but i also noticed that D. capensis doesn't like them either and all other dew have hard time actually catching also??

ive noticed it on my VFTs too.. im not too concerned tho, mine catch more earwigs than ants (but they are also outside!) i find that the traps will open up again before they go black, so i just wait for them to start to blacken before i cut em off *EQL*

Hmmm- a few places I've read that ants contain formaic (sp?) acid, which can "burn" the leaves of some plants. I don't seem to have any sort of trouble with this, but it does happen from time to time- nothing you can really do about it, if the ants are crossing the "moat" then you can't really stop them.
I don't think it will kill a plant, tho, if that's what you're worried about
