hmm...I never thought there would be sooo much issues for growing CP's outside. Well! Good luck Rug! Try to get some mesh wire or a screen to protect your CP's. But, personally that closet thingy is going to become an oven in the sun. Putting it in the shade completely defies the idea of growing the temperate CP's outside. Just get one of those screens....or even better: My student home housemates grow vegetables in the backyard. They use a electric fence : i.e., 2 wires as a square boundry. They keep out all the squrrels and other ground walkers . Birds is a different story for which they use mesh. They grow strawberries, peppers, spinach, potatoes and a lot of other plants....ohh yeah! corn.

The birds get used to the plastic owls in about a week or two. I tried one once. They do look cute, though.

we have squirels here... biggest problem is with them digging up the loose dirt and eating the birdseed... damn smart squirrels... we outsmarted them for 2 years with slinkies! then they get smart... gahhh... but as for for plant..... what about using tentpoles with mesh or chicken wire over it? then spike them deep into the ground.. birds cant get in, and the squirrels won't bother digging under since they arent after the plants.....?? just a thought! *EQL*
