I remember reading about research done on the VFT like that.
Its definately that spots were put on it. The reasearchers were trying to find out if there is an increase in spacing of the dots when the trap closes. This would mean quick expansion of the cells. However, if there is a visible stretching of the dots, one can presume that elasticity of the tissue is involved.
