What a crazy 2006. First, our town ran out of water last summer, then this winter... my water lines froze and we've had non-stop rain for days. The VFTs I had growing out in my bog are no more. Our local slugs and birds made sure that any VFT that survived the winter, became a meal for themselves. So my guess is that if any VFT were planted here in the Canadian "wild", could not survive our crazy weather nor survive our hungry critters. My darlingtonias were also chewed up - by slugs, birds and deer. The good news is that my collection of VFT seeds that were left over after distribution to the various seedbanks all germinated nicely last fall, and have all survived it's first year of dormancy. Already some of them are averaging 1 inch in diameter. What I really enjoy is that I have a local baby treefrog who has made his home in my VFT seedling flat. He woke up last month and is still hopping about the baby VFTs looking for fruitflies and stuff. I'll post some pics of this baby frog guarding the brood of baby VFTs. Got to love nature. It's just so beautiful.

I'd love to see some pics too, Sorry that I don't have much in the way of "fancy" VFT but I do have some typical and seed grown(look about the size of offsets and divisions) that I could send your way? Sib

I only have small seedlings, evidently a collection of cultivars. I wouldn't mind sending some.

OH sorry... I didn't mean that I'm out of VFTs The ones that perished were just some extra VFTs I had planted in my outdoor bog garden. I still have all those fancy VFTs in my greenhouse. So I'm okay. I do not need any new VFTs... but I really appreciate your kindness and generosity! It won't be forgotten ;D

BTW.....you are due pics ... I really want to see the baby tree frog and VFT's for scale.

BTW.....you are due pics ... I really want to see the baby tree frog and VFT's for scale. Here you go mon ami... the baby VFTs are approx. 0.5 to 0.8cm in diameter : Here's another shot of the VFT nursery, towards the other end of the large rubbermaid container (and closer to my fogging heads, thus more moisture for the moss):

oooh that is sooo cute. wow! insane. I would love that frog but I am pretty sure that in my terrarium it will go missing soon. I can't believe how well moss seems to grow for you. Its soo hard to grow that particular moss especially in that nice ordered forest fashion. I can't believe many ppl hate it.

Remember this pic from last summer? I shudder to think of what *may* happen to this little froggy when these hungry VFTs grow up. Last weekend, I found two small froggies hopping about the greenhouse. This is great, but it also sucks... because I would like to fumigate the entire greenhouse with a fungicide and some insecticide (to rid of slugs, snails, aphids and scale). I hate to use pesticides, but since this last winter, I've noticed a few aphids on my new VFT growth, and some scale on some of my neps... I think they may have originated from some trades with some local guys last year I've made an application of pyrethium (natural insecticide made from Chrysathemums). But I am a bit concerned that this poison, along with the slug bait may hurt the froggies in my greenhouse.

Is Neem toxic to vertebrates? I know it's not toxic to people.

lol! froggy ....O froggy!! I just saw a long silk thread in my terrarium....it was abruptly stopped at the VFT's teeth ...lol! I don't need to imagine a lot ;D ... lol! you won't have too many problems for now david! Those seedlings grow pretty slow in yr 1 and 2. Yr 2 is when u should start to worry. lol! I know that, that baby frog wouldn't last more than 5 min in my carpet of doom ....lol! *chomp*. ... I LOVE VFT's !!!! But yeah....I would never do that to a baby frog like that....its ooo cute.
