My biggest VFT is this Red Dragon I bought last year. Have taken lots of leave pullings and have no less then six baby plants from it. An inch and a half wide trap still on it when I potted it up today. Will have to see how big things get this summer.....should be interesting. Looks like it turned green in the fridge due to lack of light.

Ahhh, I'ma go poke around in the muck today too, get a look at what is looking better and/or (hopefully NOT) Worse... Looks like you've got at least ONE thing in beauty condition there, curlingguy Maybe I'll be able to see some flowering activity beginning if I'm careful/lucky Gotta drill some drainage holes in my "bog" sometime soon too, before rot can happen- I inadvertently made a "quaking bog" by not putting enough peatmoss in there at the time

How long do yo guys do dormancy? I was shitting in my pants whenever I take out the plants to check on them once every month. i basically removed them before valintines day just becos I couldn't stand it anymore ..lol! soo afraid regarding a VFT's welfare. Well...unfortunately I still did loose a complete cultivar ... the green dragon. But...hey! I am more concerned now because the plants which are all up and going are my TRADEMARK plants which I whine about .... and I know the ppl here know what I mean about that . I guess I am also happy that the couple of VFT's divided and DID NOT FLOWER. The deilsiana flowers are burning up in the light. same would happen to the VFT ones...and i guess I am not at all BRAVE enough to let my VFT's flower. damn! it kinda feels wierd that the plant gets all the attention while I sit here without dinner lol! Damn! I love this freakin species of life....VFT.. lol! On the day of my wedding...lol! the VFT has to be "THE BEST PLANT" . lol! enough randomness and back to topic. Nice looking plant there curlingguy. I want to measure mine but once again.... I am not brave to hold a ruler in that freakin packed space to measue a B52's leaf while it closes. I was poking around the ping collecting the baby plants from the dead litter while I closed no less than 4 traps on the typical VFT...my heart skipped a beat as every time I was saying "DOH!!!!" or "FUDGE!!" . .

YESSSSS I found at least one hibernacula of P.vulgaris (thanks Rick )- it went dormant a bit early (to my way of thinking anyways) so I'd thought I'd lost it, but I was poking around today and saw it, I'm SO stoked- looks like EVERYTHING survived (even tho I messed up and didn't mulch at ALL, it was SO nice for so long and then BAM 3 feet of snow, I could have found pine needles even if I'd wanted to then) I even left some S.purpurea ssp.venosa (which I think are var burkeii even) out there, just little seedlings, and they look AWESOME.... Oh and the Turkey Vultures are also back in the region, saw one today flying low, CAN'T be long now

If it weren't for the posts for the enclosure that I have around my bog, I wouldn't even know where it is, there's still so much snow in my backyard.
Carl, watch out for slugs getting at your pings outside. They went to town on mine again last year. I may have one or two hibernacula left, though.
Here's hoping that everything survives.

I'm more worried now about the warm and the wet, so you should not have anything to worry about man- and I KNOW about them slugs, they ate most of the plants I got from you last year but they were still holding on, I had one NICE specimen but something got in there and dug EVERYTHING up and the ping was the only thing I couldn't locate in the mess

I went outside to see if the mixed sundews in the tray survived well our winter... Apparently yes! 3 labels fell out and one pot eaten by squirrels, but others than that, it's looking good! With some luck and time, I should be able to ID the mysterious sundews we saw on our last fieldtrip!
Other than that, Lloyd's D. filiformis 'California sunset' is not about 3 inches tall, and Pinguicula vallisneriifolia leaves have spread, and its gemmae began to grow... ;D

I knew I put two in everybody's package. Give them lots of root space and they will go crazy.

Dormancy news.
I started taking stuff out in the last 2 days or so. The VFT's in the fridge got completely submerged and turned into slimy stuff. Into the compost. Note: keep them moist but not actually in water. Bad move. They were only Loblaws stuff and I have tons of seedlings coming. The D. intermedia were actually growing in the watery sphagnum. Now there are planted and are all coming out of dormancy. The S. "coppertop" looks sort of rotten on top but the roots look very healthy. The S. psittacina looks Ok as does the S. purpurea. The big leucophylla is out of the basement and seems to be ready to send out new leaves. I'll see how they do over the next few weeks.

A little update from me......Somehow the plants in the terrarium are able to sense the "CLIMATE" outside. I mean....The dentate is making a floral tube. I can see a small bud in the center of the plant. I am waiting for it to become an inch or so before I can confirm and cut it off. Its interesting how it sensed that "now is spring time" inspite of being under constant 16 hrs of light.
