I guess the guys I see in my orchid pots are springtails. Sometimes I see similar guys crawling on the sarr's. They don't seem to do any obvious harm.

They are supposed to be cleaners they will eat any decomposing material around. This guys are the best thing anyone can have in an aquarium.
Cheers

but there has to be something else.....my VFT traps come out kinda a bit rotten or blackened before it even finishes forming.

could be a "mini dormancy", if you can't find anything that's causing the problem, you might have to just wait til conditions get better and see if it's just a case of them getting a bit tired, maybe- That mass-feeding of crickets might also be having a bit of a delayed effect and be partly responsible, too

I think thrips and mites cause mainly ugly deformed leaves. I think if it's rotting leaves it's something else. Although my VFT's never went into dormancy on their own, just got sort of sad looking after a few years.

well.....the nematodes are coming in either case...I might as well use them. I will see if the prospect of dormancy comes up...I have no problems of putting them in. However, I would prefer it to stay out all season and go in in september.
