Hi Dennis - Awesome (and deeply frustrating for me)! I can't keep anything in the genus alive for more than a couple months. You are going great with it. Nice work! What do you mean by cooler temps? 10C? 16? 20? I find I am frequently fooled by what "cool" means in growing and let the temps get too low.

My Genlisea hispidula just keeps on growing despite no particular effort on my part. It hasn't flowered in the last couple of years, though.

The ambient temperature during the summer is 25 C (day), 22 C (night) while in winter it is 23 C (Day), 19 (night). Not a huge variation but I assume that the cooler nights may have triggered blooming. This particular species is actually quite robust in my conditions, I was actually able to give them as freebies with sales last season lol.

Looking great! Congrats on the flower stalk! I'm able to keep mine alive but not happy. I'm going to try undrained instead of tray method. Willy

Thanks for the info Dennis! Conforms that I have rather naturally "cool" conditions. Your temps require heating for me to get to most of the year. This particular species is actually quite robust in my conditions I'm not sure if robust for an expert grower is any sign of it being an easy species. Still, I do want to try my hand at this genus again. Hopefully a tank with some heating will help out this time. So many lives lost in the past. So much carnage. Such a waste. But I take heart - "If you are not killing plants, you are not really stretching yourself as a gardener." -- J.C. Raulston, horticulturist, founder of the J.C. Raulston Arboretum in Raleigh, N.C.

Update: The plant sent out a second spike. Still waiting on blooms.
