Hey Guys! I was wondering what was going on because I have a few Drosera Spatulata's and everytime I get some they start off nice then all of a sudden when there really nice, loose all their dew and grow slower... It's not a Bug Ralated problem, I've already checked... Can anybody help me out? Thanks! Cya

I can only guess the roots for some reason aren't absorbing enough water to keep up with evaporation? Humidity too low or roots not doing well? In the spring, you are welcome to some of my D. spatulata's. Mine grow and proliferate like crazy with tons of dew and I have to continually cut off the flower scapes to avoid the boring flowers.

Check the soil they're growing in... I had a TON of these things in my terrarium back in the 80's and 90's. When I moved and planted them in pots, I tossed a pile of them out (lack of room, no other contacts at the time), I was so confident with them.
Then, I planted them in a bunch of peat moss that had been "modified" and lost them all - and it started exactly the same way you described. Prior to that, I had subjected them to all sorts of abuse... lack of water, desert-like humidity and they always looked good. But then, BAM! All dead. I had spathulata kanto and kansai (as they were known then) and montana, which I grouped in with them. Wouldn;t mind having those back again one day.

I gave these d.spatulata to insectivore.. I have a specie from the "rendez-vous horticole" and they are red and nice! I have a lot of seeds.. but I have other(I gave these plants) , they are green, and witout dew too.. the little "hair" in the middle is brown .. they are in the same hothouse.. can you explain that? They have the same conditions.. it's weird! cya!

I noticed sundews do amazingly well with higher humidity. Before when I sparingly watered my VFTs and all plants...the VFT;s were fine...but sundew capensis was looking slow and no dew atall. After the watering strategy adopted for the moss where I have to water a lot more...the sundews are going crazy..the capensis is growing really fast and the deilsania;s are lovely ..full of dew and so on. Sundews seem to like it moist and humid environment around them.

Hey Lloyd! I'll be a taker! But the Tokaiensis i've got! Tom, I'll probably take one also... I just don't get it, I've always had problems with them... I give them the same conditions as a Capensis and they die... While titom's are thriving in the same conditions... Wierd! Any help or suggestions are appreciated! Cya

It's hard to come up with suggestions, Insectivore, since I can't recall ever having ANY problems with any type of D.spatulata- I'll send you all my "types" once it gets warm enough, I could probably ship a couple hundred out and still have more than enough left over
