Okay, I've kept this quiet-ish so far to avoid the jinx that is announcing stuff too soon (begin countdown to plants' demise NOW lol )
But a month or two ago, I got some fresh, northern hemisphere-acclimated tubers. D. stolonifera, D. menzeiseii (might have spelled this wrong) and D. gigantea- only one of each, but they were real nice and firm and red
I quickly called on Jay to take the BIG one off me as I really don't have space for it- PLUS he is admittedly a MUCH better grower than I am, and I REALLY wanted D.gigantea to become more common in Canada, so Jay was the best candidate for this (that AND he really likes "big" sundews, that one has to be close to the most expansive at least)
A little while ago, Jay reported (long after it happened, I think darnit ) some growth, but mine had done nothing (this was due to me following directions a little TOO close- I think the windowsill they were in to keep 'em cool was likely WAY too cold)
So last week I moved the pot into my regular growing place, and this morning I was poking about in the pot and saw a BIG sprout-like thing with what looks like a bunch of pairs of leaves on it- I'm guessing it's the D.stolonifera since that's what the shape resembles (and I KNOW I should label 'em but I put both in one BIG pot figuring that I could tell 'em apart once they "pop" AND keep their conditions the same easier than having to find a tray that fits 2 post AND fits the windowsill or whatever)
And I know it's a BIT late for them to be starting up, but I am not all that woried, I will feed 'em as much as possible once they get going and hopefully I'll actually have extra of these species come next fall, so keep yer fingers crossed if you have any interest in this type of plants- I know I want a few more tuberous species, but I want to get good with these "easy" ones first
