I used to use a 6% hydrogen peroxide soak for 10-20 minutes. I added a drop of tween detergent to the peroxide. Afterwards, I rinsed with sterile distilled water.
Your mileage may vary though. 😀

6% H2O2 from chemical supply house such as sigma, fisher or vwr. Was able to purchase it because I had a commercial /business license. Additionally they made sure that their stocks were fresh - as H2O2 breaks down over time so was nev sure how long a drug store had the bottle on their shelf for.

I thought they where the same.

I thought they where the same. Google is your friend Apparently there are literally dozens of webpages of info out there on the old intronet and learning is fun! All jokes aside, you can also get a good book if you are interested in the topic and research it like us old folks that are 35yrs+ had to do. This book was passed down to me from an old school veteran micropropagator. Its from the 80's but still very relevant. A background of basic chemistry and lab knowledge helps with the procedures in the publication for sure.
Good luck!

That looks like a good book to read if I interested in all this. I am sure I can find something like that online. And also for carnivorous plant seeds TC would I need rotting hormones in the Gel?

Kyte's book is a great piece of work that has stood the test of time. My copy is well worn and appreciated. 😀

while the book is great it dont account for cp type contamination's that do occur , we get a lot of contams that the book don't cover from our type of plants , in my experience. your best agent is bleach , but you must be aware of it strength and its not scented like lemon scented ect . , your strength being 10 % ration of a 4% bleach bottle . timing and application is important as usual , i do use peroxide as well and other agents, but bleach is the most reliable . peroxide , on the usual scale takes longer to sterilize as its will not kill all the bugs in a short few hours , it normally take up to 12 to 15 hrs to work the same a 8 min of 10% bleach , both have great properties and substantial draw backs, as does PPM. Its once again it is matter of trying and seeing what works for you best , bleach will kill or make your seed non viable very quickly , peroxide will do the same , PPM is a inhibitor and can cause low germination and have contams come back at inappropriate times on you if your not aware .
the sterilization of seed is a art form in its self to long u screw your seed up not enough its still contaminated , no easy way, for new comes its very confusing indeed .was for me . to start the older the seed the higher the contamination will be and harder it is to sterilize in most cases with seed liek nepenthes more than 2 months old your going to have major problems, with hard out case seed like VFT or tuber drosera that is not quite as bad , the more the seed is handled by finger un-sterile tools objects the harder it will be too to get streile, storage of seed is all so a problem ,dirt or use of old paper on seed storage systems will all so make it hard , so many factor in play here to make your job a bit easier or harder.
The best is seed u have harvested your self looked after and stored correctly , the worst is buying it in from some one who has know idea on seed handling or don't care and you have problems .
most seed is contaminated to a degree as soon as its exposed to air , i use many times pod or pods that are all most ripe but not cracked open as yet, as a internal seed is 100% sterile unless it been exposed to air or a unknown contaminate u cant see .
don't do masses of seed in a container at once , only do enough for a few sowing's at once , many seed will sterilize at different rates , some seed are soft others hard , you need to watch for colour changes , times and embryo being over done cooked is the term we use . takes a bit of practice but a bit of trail and error , success with come with good fresh well handled seed . remember all must be sterile to begin with, containers rinse water, syringes , tools ect ect.
