Heading to Peru in a couple of weeks, Doing the Inca trail and a 5 day excursion into the amazon, I expect to see a lot of orchids. Any Cp's you can think of that I might try to oggle? was thinking maybe helios but then realized I would be too far South. how about the Amazon? A lush ecosystem like that has got to have something?!? Anyone else been? what have you found? whereabouts? cheers !

Sounds amazing! Are you going to try the cuy?
It's not a large, noticeable species, but there is U. jamesoniana in Peru.

Hi Porcorosso - Sounds like a great trip! High elevation you can run into a couple species of Utricularia section Orchidioides, and maybe a dew. Lower down there are some terrestrial utrics and some aquatic. Truthfully, Peru is not well explored for CP species. When you are high in elevation you can look in mosses on branches (lots of orchids there too). Both high and low take note of when you are on sandstone derived soils, particularly white sandstone (that's a more common habitat for CP in SoAm). If you do find something, take detailed photographs! It very well could be something new! Higher in elevation keep an eye out for some of my favorite plants, Andean Ericoids! Do an image search for the genera: Macleania, Cavendishia, Ceratostema, and Psammisia. These are not your northern blueberries! I grow a bunch of these at home, but in the wild they are awe-inspiring! Have a great trip!
