Good day everyone - So, I am planning on doing a group buy for my club from Wistuba this spring. I know in the States the ordering is pretty easy because Andreas has an importer here. The buy itself I am not worried about. It's how to accommodate the very ephemeral nature of the species available from Wistuba. On most sites, they list what is available, and there is very little turnover in short periods of time. On Wistuba's site, however; the availability rotates, sometimes weekly. I'm interested in ideas about how to get lists from everyone at the right time to get them the material they want.
My current idea is to set a deadline for lists from everyone, and ask for a list of priority of species desired, and a maximum € value they are willing to spend. Here is my rational. The deadline will let give people an idea of when the order will be placed. The priority list will allow me to get them plants they want depending on what is available. Lastly, the max € value, will ensure that I won't order more plants than they can afford to purchase.
Does that sound like it will work? My alternative idea is to pick a week there are plants available that I want, and ask people to make selections in a few days. That all seems more arbitrary and as though some folks will miss out. Any input will be welcome. I value all your opinions! Thanks so much for helping me figure this out!

...can't help 'ya AP, never done a group order, but I have participated in a couple. I think there's the A list and then there's the B list of substitutions when A list plants aren't available. Very ambitious what you're trying to do though, the perfect group order, good luck!

Hi shelbykid - I hope I didn't give the impression I am doing a group order for the OCPS. I probably should have made it clearer in the post, but I am in the States which means, as much as I would love to include my friends from the OCPS on the order, international laws would make that extremely challenging. What I am looking for here is advice, and opinions on how to include people from my local club on the order in a fair way. There have been some very well done group orders by folks here, and I thought I would seek their advice. Hi AV - Thanks, I'll probably need the luck. I like the A/B list idea! I've done group orders for my club before, but not from somewhere with such rapidly changing stock. I want to make sure that everyone who participates feels they are treated in a fair way and that they can get some of the plants they want. Probably not as dramatically as in Canada, but in Minnesota we are entirely dependent on mail order and swapping material among enthusiasts, though were are fortunate enough to have several domestic options. It's just a bit of a challenge for group orders with the business model that Wistuba has. If I could get the plants from someone else I would, but as of yet no one is really competing with Wistuba.

Hi Shelbykid - Sorry for the confusion I caused. I probably should have made the subject and first post clearer. Thanks for your understanding!
