Good morning all, My 100th post, and I am please to announce my VFT has put up a flower stalk. I just noticed it now, and am deciding on what to do with it. Any suggestions? It is your typical form of VFT from Colasanti's Tropical Gardens found at Humber Nurseries. I am really considering letting it grow.

Your vft looks great, I'd say let it bloom!

What would be really interesting is if the second crown throws up a flower stalk too. Hopefully in time to pollinate. Now that would be something.

...shouldn't that plant be dormant now? I have a few of these typicals, they actually colour up nicely in the summer and fall if grown in full sun. Might as well let it flower now, it thinks it's spring anyways. Cheers.

It should be dormant, yes, but I got it late in the season, really late, 31st October, re-potted and put it under lights right away. Kept temps above 25C during the day with a drop to 20C at night. Weekly feedings of betta pellets, and regular daily misting. Humidity was around 50%, though now(since Saturday) its getting 75-85%. It hasn't been kept in a tray of water, but I have been top watering weekly. Was under CFL's, now(since Saturday) its getting T5-HO's, both 6500K daylight at 16 hour days.
It will not get its dormancy until next year, and since there are 2 stalks, I am aiming to pollinate it myself to shoot for seeds.
Did I mention anywhere that this is my first VFT?
I cannot wait to get my hands on the bigger breeds.

Couldn't get my camera to focus on the foreground. Either way, I kinda like this pic. Anyways, I hope I managed to pollinate with whats there. By the looks of it 2 more flowers may open tomorrow.

Here are some shots of the plant itself. Some leaves showing the strain of the flowering process.
