Hi all! I just want to share this plant of mine. My mom's friend gave a few cuttings to my mom years ago and this year I've pulled out a cutting to start a new plant. It grows tall, with spikes and when conditions are favorite, it grows leafs on top! Quite a cool plant in my opinion, and surely hardy as well. How hardy? My mom puts her cuttings in a plastic cup with water, and they root and grow anyway without rotting. I don't know what type of plant it is, but base on the succulent stem and spikes, I think it's possibly a cacti.

Very cool! It is a Euphorbia, possibly Euphorbia antiquorum. Tricky to tell until it is a bit older as there are many similar species. Oddly enough... there are not even a true cactus. Thanks for sharing!

Pereskia, are a vining cactus from the Caribbean.
I had one for several years - extremely vigourous and it did not look like a cacti until you got very close.
Was very cool plant to have.

I've got two Pereskia growing from seed, not a vine but a tree species. Like a stick with spines and leaves at the top.

Cool. I know there are about 17 species of Pereskia.
Which species do you have?
I had Pereskia aculeata which had a interesting vining habit. A rapid grower, would put on about 60cm per year and on the more mature growth portion would get woody with nasty turrets of long sharp spines.
