Would anybody here on the forum like to share their sources for nepenthes seeds and germination rates? There are many vendors on ebay and I plan on buying some seeds this summer but so far, I haven't had much luck with germinating seeds I've bought in the past. I've heard good reviews from the vendor albermarlsounds but from what I bought last summer, I got the following germination rates: Nepenthes ampularia "red" - 2 germinated out of 200 or possibly more seeds. Nepenthes glabrata - 0 germinated out of 200 or possibly more seeds. Maybe my germination method was wrong. This year I'm going to be using pure LFS topped off with finely chopped LFS to germinate the seeds. Pure peat doesn't seem to do the trick. I heard some good reviews on Morebuyfromthisshop on ebay and I might buy this because I can't wait for Ricardo (albermarlsounds) to post his next listing: www.ebay.com/itm/Nepenthes-seeds-for-beginner-Mix-seeds-MIX-species-color-clone-350-seeds-/161743978669?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item25a8b140adShould I buy it, or is it not worth the money? ^

For the price, worth trying it out.
Allen Phoon on the forum is reliable.

It is a pretty good deal, which kind of turns me off at some points because usually low price= old, dead seeds unless the seeds have an extremely thick seed coat to protect it. If I do get it, I'll keep you guys updated on how it turns out.
What is the germination rate with Allenphoon's seeds? I may contact him and ask if he has any in stock.

I've had good results with pods from morebuyfromthisshop in the past, but I haven't tried the mixed seeds. There should probably be at least a few species in the mix that store and germinate well.
I tried both ampullaria "red" and glabrata pods from albermarlesounds as well and got the same results. It's worth buying other species from him in the future, for the most part I've had excellent germination rates from his seeds.

I think Allen has access to fresh seed and has been around here for awhile. His prices are reasonable. I just got some stenophylla seeds to try out.

I'm definitely going to buy seeds from his next posting. I did not realize that he set a time limit on his seeds and I missed out on the N.aristolchoides seeds! Which species from albermarlsounds germinated well for you? I heard lowlander seeds expire much faster than highlanders.

I went ahead and ordered the seeds from morebuyfromthisshop. Funny thing is, morebuyfromthisshop is owned by the same person as albermarlsounds. Now I'm more hopeful on my gamble.

Lowlanders are supposed to have a better shelf life than highlanders. Most of the species I buy from him do well, a few off the top of my head would be jamban, lingulata, albomarginata, aristolochioides, naga, etc.

N. aristolochioides is crtically endangered! The two...proabbly one site it still exists is located within Kerinci Seblat National Park, and collection is totally illegal!

That is true, but if I refused to buy them, it's not like there aren't people lining up who will. Once they're harvested and brought back, they're not going anywhere near their natural range. If this practice is to be ended, it has to be stopped at the harvest with the enforcement of existing laws, since confiscating the seeds after the fact and returning them to their original location probably isn't going to happen. Until then, I may as well take advantage of a good opportunity that isn't going to be stopped with my non-participation.

I do echo what roraima says, don't buy aristolochioides seed.
Buying seed and wild collected plants very very rarely contributes to the decline of a species but aristolochioides is critically endangered and anyone that buys seed is indeed directly contributing to the extinction of this species.
If people would stop buying the seed they would stop collecting it and we wouldn't have a problem.

The driving factor behind this amazing species being on the brink of extinction in the wild, is illegal poaching and not other conservation concerns. No excuses!
I would highly recommend one of Wistuba or BE's fabulous T/C aristolochioides.
I'm encouraged to see Ricardo finally started to produce Horticultural Nepenthes seeds.

Cole we posted at the same time!
I agree with this when it comes to most species, abundant species probably aren't affected very much by this practice.
Unfortunately when it comes to rare and endangered species it really does. At this point every pod counts. After a while it isn't going to be worth his time to climb the mountain for seed.
