Hello Everyone,
It has been a few years since my botany and mycology courses in University. I have seen Gemmae in a few instances like lichen and liverworts before. And I have seen a few pictures of them from Willy I think on here. I am curious, it looks like Willy's were sprouted in the photo's of the Albany Gemmae. What do they look like straight off the plant? Are they modified stems with shorter leaves, or do they look more like a thick shortened leaf from which the 'plantlet' will sprout from in the correct conditions. What I am wondering is if the Apical meristem is coming from the gamma while it is on th mother plant or if the apical meristem develops once ideal conditions for the gamma to develop into a plant?
Thanks

They look like tiny, little leaves with a really small mark or bump.

Hi Steve! This is how they looked like! Gemmaes look like circular leafs to me. Gemmaes start to develop once they jump away (I've read that raindrops would make them fly!) from the mother plant and find the favorable conditions
