For those of you that keep your plants outside how do you avoid hail damage? Is it inevitable and the plants stand up to it well enough or do you take special precautions?

I don't think anyone has ever mentioned hail damage. If you were in a particular high risk area, netting would work fine. There are lots of products designed to keep animals out that would also keep hail out. You would want to only cover the top during hail weather.

Most of us just let it happen, one of the hazards of growing outside.
Lloyd idea might work, someone should try it out.

My hockey goals are homemade with a tightly woven net. When bad weather is forecasted, I put the goals over my bog. The nets are too tight for letting them over the bog all the time, they would block too much sun.

Thanks guys I will keep an eye out for netting and if i find some I will try it. It seems like it would be a shame to finally get these beasts growing properly only to have them beaten into a smoothy by the weather.
