Iv covered my 30 gallon fish tank with tub lids to try to keep humidity up...but. Its not keeping. When i get glass and have it properly sealed will it stay more constant ? Or do i need to get an aquarium heater or something and put that in there in a thing full of water?

Did you put a few inches of water in the bottom of your tank ?
Installing the plants on a crate over a few inches of water could help keep the humidity more constant.

Heat rocks are pretty good I had one for my snake and it made the 3 foot by 2 feet 24 inch deep aquarium super warm as the snake would slither on it because it needed heat to digest, that and a open container of water or like shoggoths said a few inches of water in the bottom near not on it(it will melt plastic) should keep good humidity once it gets a proper cover might work but do not quote me it should help though but a heat rock does need to be plugged into give heat I am not sure of the power consumption but the box should say that info but keep the rock away from the water like on a hill of Aquarium gravel
Hope it works!!

Off topic: How's your snake right now? Heat rocks in my experience are not very good for reptiles, they can burn their bellies. Also many malfunction quite often, I would use an exo-terra heat mat or simply a heat bulb.

What I went with might cut a inch off the width so it sit tighter but we will see there is about an inch open on the one side of the tank but I have a plan for that lol Attachments:

If your still having issues put some aquarium air stones in there attached to an air pump I get a 10% increase in my 55g tanks doing this. They also have about 3" of water in them. I get 78-80% humidity during the day and it skyrockets off the charts at night. If your tank is over 80*F it makes it harder to hold higher humidity

Hmm yah there is 3/4 of an inch of water on the bottom ..the air stone thing is a good idea and cheap ..defiantly will do that. Thanks for the tip

Just put in enough to get over the top of the stones 1/2" and it should help a lot. Don't add much more than that or you'll have a hard time getting temps to drop at night if it's a HL setup. The water will hold the heat in the tank up from daytime temps. If it's heat you desire a small submersible aquarium heater will work but a reptile heat mat will work much better on the back

Eh thos cfls r getting hot in a confined space like that. I dont think heat will be a problem. And its more of a lowland thing. I dont wanna set up fans and stuff to make a hl tank yet
