I got some sensitive plant seeds in the mail I hear they are one of the harder plants to grow and keep I was told that b4 sowing them to soak them in hot water is this a important step for the seeds and if they are not oaked will they die also how do this plant handle the winters?

Mimosa pudica?
Snip off the papery coating. Soak the hard seed on wet tissue paper. Gently pot it when the root appears. Not winter hardy.

I have sowed these many times Either I get a batch of seeds that nearly all germinate or hardly any. I just used some regular potting soil and put the seeds just barely under the top of the media and watered it with my misting sprayer. I had good luck this time. Others not so much. Attachments:

I've had relatively good luck with all my seeds. I buy my seed from the seed racks when the stores put their flower/veggie seeds out. I soak my seeds in hot water in a glass mug overnight and plant all the seeds that have sunk to the bottom of the mug the next day. I've used 95*C water and the hottest water that comes out of the tap and had good success with both. I've planted the seeds that were still floating the next day, and have never gotten any sprouts. I plant 3 seeds per 4" pot for a bushier pot.

I always have had almost 100% germination with my simple technique and no soaking. However I had seeds that I picked right off the plant, which may have made a difference.

Dennis A, don't stress to much about them. Soaking in hot water overnight or snipping off the coating (what Lloyd said) all works well. I've had a fairly good germination from soaking them in hot water. M.pudica are very cold sensitive, they will die if you leave them out for winter. You can refer back to the info I typed you in your messages, if the seeds fail, I'll send you some more ( my M.pudica is flowering lol.)

I got 11 seeds,I will try them and see what happens and send you a PM if I need more How long should they take to germinate? or when should I give up on them? Where are the seeds? this has to be a indoor plant so I wanna get the seeds before I have a epidemic in the house lol !!! If I get the seeds I might sow a few and do a giveaway for the rest

I've had some germinate overnight. Most will germinate in a few days. Keep them in some moist paper towel under some lights and check on the daily, then, you can sow the ones that did germinate in some peatmoss or potting mix. Throw away seeds that mould. Good luck!
