I just went hiking and snapped a few photos of some Monotropa uniflora "Indian-Pipe" and a Canis lupus familiaris "American Staffordshire Terrier." Pardon the grainy photos.

Once you find a clump here (Nanaimo) you will start seeing clumps all over the place, as long as the forest stays the same (by that I mean tree cover and undergrowth levels and what not). I'm still waiting to find Cephalanthera austiniae "Phantom Orchids".
And thanks.

Awesome find thanks for sharing! If you want to see some Cephalanthera austiniae next year let me know and I can show you a secret location of them. Blindfolded on the way there of course

When I was a kid, I was always fascinated by this plant (big surprise). Thanks for the pictures. Is the dog a parasite or a saprophyte?

I forgot to mention that this same trail yields another much tastier parasite: Hypomyces lactifluorum "Lobster Muchroom." There are a few other species that grow here but I've never seen them. Awesome find thanks for sharing! If you want to see some Cephalanthera austiniae next year let me know and I can show you a secret location of them. Blindfolded on the way there of course Deal. What time of the year? Any suggestions for a good GPS? Thanks for the pictures. Is the dog a parasite or a saprophyte? Your welcome Lloyd. As for the dog I'd say a bit of both, she eats everything but also leaches heat off you when you sleep.
