what would happen if you boiled water and let it sit in a open container for 48 hours? Simple answer: You will make the water hot then it will cool to room temperature. The water will become hot and then it will lose its thermal energy to the environment and evaporation. Sure you will lose some minerals to precipitation which would decrease the dissolved minerals in the water but some of that will dissolve back into the water and it will be roughly the same as before. With distillation you remove the water via evaporation leaving behind the minerals and then condense it into a separate container.

Yeah I know I buy 4 liters at a time for $2.00 and right on the label it says steam distilled water I only use RO if I am stuck or I collect rain water since it free lol ! As a last resort I leave a open jug of tap water (I top it upweekly if some evaporates) in my room by my heater should I ever run out

For the purpose of growing CPs distillation and reverse osmosis produce the same quality of water. Leaving a jug of water out exposed to the air will do nothing except lose some water to evaporation and collect dust. 2$ for 4 L of distilled water isn't bad especially if you only have a few plants. Buy a big plastic drum to collect rain water in an that should last you a while.

Sorry to hear that but what does it have to do with what quality of water to use?

Here it's $1 for 4 L distilled H20. Not sure what services you have there but here grocery stores/water supply places deliver. Also you could buy a cheap distiller. The Brita Zerowater also is an option. Some aquarium places have cheap filters which give almost RO water. And of course you could jerry-rig a rain collection system with some odds and ends. Just take your time and think of some easy/cheap way of getting water. Also what is the TDS of your tap water? If you're lucky it might be low enough to use.

They do not deliver here with anything exception being couriers Brita zerowater I have yet to see or I seen it and never paid attention I usually put out a open faced container when it rains hard. No aquarium places near me although I am sure there is one here somewhere right now the 4 liter bottles are my best option because they come with a carry handle making it easy to carry

I've moved this discussion on water hardness to its own thread.
NFLD is on granite and purps are the provincial flower. I suspect the tap water may be soft enough for CPs in which case letting it sit for a day or two to remove the chlorine would be advised. Call your local water authority and they should be able to tell you.

I got the same model at Wal-Mart, in the auto section. I think people with RV's use them for testing water before they fill their tanks.

If you buy a Brita Zerowater, a TDS meter comes free (I'm not pushing the Zerowater-I don't know if any CP people use them).
