I wanted to share some pictures of the sundew cultures that I have. I used MS media because it was readily available. The half strength dilution was based on what others have done in the literature. I have also used 1/3 strength with good results. Seed sterilization followed protocols from literature and also from other online sources. Media: half strength MS basal salts, full strength Gamborg B5 vitamins, 3% v/w sucrose, 0.6-0.8% v/w agar, pH 5.5-5.7 Seed sterilization: 20% commercial bleach + Tween20 (6min), 3x 5min rinse in water D. capensis Initial plant received from 31drew31 in 2011 Seeds collected: 2014-Jan-30 Plated: 2014-Feb-22 First sprouts: 2014-Mar-3 ![](http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a383/kennyso/0311_D_capensis_seeded_0222.jpg) Sub-cultured: 2014-Apr-21 ![](http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a383/kennyso/0421_D_capensis.jpg) D. tokaiensis Seeds received from Shoggoths 2014-Jan Plated 2014-Jan-30 ![](http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a383/kennyso/0311_D_tokaiensis_seeded_0130.jpg) Last subculture: 2014-Mar-22 ![](http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a383/kennyso/0421_D_tokaiensis.jpg) Beginning to root: 2014-April ![](http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a383/kennyso/0421_D_tokaiensis_root.jpg) D. binata Seeds received from Shoggoths 2014-Jan ![](http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a383/kennyso/0421_D_binata.jpg) D. spatulata Seeds received from Shoggoths 2014-Jan ![](http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a383/kennyso/0421_D_spatulata_gold_coast.jpg) The next two came from another lab. The technician gave them to me after he heard I was interested in sundews. D. rotundifolia Initial cultures received: 2013-September Last subculture: 2014-Apr-21 ![](http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a383/kennyso/0421_D_rotundifolia.jpg) D. communis (I believe this is mislabeled and should actually be D. spatulata) Initial cultures received: 2013-September Last subculture: 2014-Apr-21 ![](http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a383/kennyso/0421_D_spatulata.jpg)

Very nice. Are the petri dishes sealed? Are they just regular plastic petri dishes?

Yes they are sealed with parafilm. They are regular plastic petri dishes 100x25mm.

Yes they are sealed with parafilm. They are regular plastic petri dishes 100x25mm. I got some drosera dews via TC are the roots very noticable? Mine are in LFS right now and I cannot see the root so I got them in thier own baggie with some RO water and sealed under light to give then high humidity I need to wait til the end of the month to get paid and get something to pot them in and more baggies will they make it until then, I ran out of planting containers!! will they be ready to pot then by that I mean will the roots be long enough to pot the plants by then and go back in the baggie for more humidity?? I was sent VFT seedlings too via TC, but had to pot them right away and put them in a baggie with RO water inside a container(a cleaned 1 pound butter tub)they look like tiny little plants, even forming tiny traps! Any advice will be appreciated

Looking good. The tuberous dew seeds that' shoggoths sent me a few months ago have just sprouted using traditional methods.

UPDATE Sept 16, 2014 I've been busy with school so I haven't had as much time as earlier before to work on my cultures. Some newly established species: D. aliciae, seed from Maiden ![](http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a383/kennyso/2014-09-16081925.jpg) D. "Pretty Rosette," seed from Maiden ![](http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a383/kennyso/2014-09-16081906.jpg) D. aliciae, seed from BCP just starting to germinate ![](http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a383/kennyso/2014-09-16081828.jpg) D. capensis alba, seed from ng ![](http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a383/kennyso/2014-09-16081949.jpg) ![](http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a383/kennyso/2014-09-16082600.jpg) D. capensis Giant form, seed from BCP. I'm SUPER excited about this species! Can't wait to transfer them to pots and see how big they can get! ![](http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a383/kennyso/2014-09-16082028.jpg) Not a newly established culture per se, but VTF seed from dvg ![](http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a383/kennyso/2014-09-16082209.jpg)
