...can someone tell me what colour Red Dragon (or any of the other red/maroon VFT) seedlings are. Are they green and get their colour as they mature and receive sunlight or are they red right away? Any insight is much appreciated
Cheers, Gabriel.

I was told by maiden that seedlings are generally green or sometimes yellowish and yellowish meant they were lacking nitrogen or as he called it Azote which is French for nitrogen I used to have a |Big Jaws VFT and any new growth was always green.there might be a red tint but not too sure when it comes to a Red Dragon VFT maybe someone can give you a better answer.

Hello Gabriel,
Seedlings from red VFT's will not all be red. Some will be red, but most of them will be green. This is the same for other cultivars too. Seedlings from any VFT cultivars are not the same genetically and cannot be called the cultivar that the seeds came from. The lighting you are using can make a difference in colour of the plants too.
Hope this helps!

I agree with devon, even with akaï ryu x akaï ryu seeds, some of the plantlets will be green. But many of them will be red at germination. The last time i sow red mix seeds, on 30 seeds, 20 was red, 8 was green and 2 was giants dentate! I suppose i found one of the original red dragon's parents plants by accident. Or maybe just a mixed up in the seeds. Here my last batch, sorry for the poor pictures quality. 2012/07/10 (4-5 weeks after germination) 2012/07/30

...thanks guys, I've got a bunch of mixed VFT seeds germinating right now and just wanted to know if I could identify the 'red ones' at this early stage. All green so far, hopefully a red one pops up or maybe it already has but it's green (that sounds confusing , you know what I mean). Anyways, thanks again. Cheers, Gabriel.

You asked about a specific drosera specie. Seedlings from many other genus are not green at all.

Wow! That's a great red/green ratio!

The VFT seeds I am going to get are from a variety pack, does that mean I could get a B 52 or a red dragon?

I was misquoted, I was not asking Maiden what I would get, I was asking if there was a chance of getting those I asked him about but thanx for the seeds I hope to get a few you listed I am interested in Big Jaws(maybe cause I used to have one) but will be happy with whatever germinatesI already have peat,a LED light and trays and pots, and 2 eye droppers,DBW'sand a empty Terrarium waiting to be made!

Good luck, Dennis! I hope you get some cool cultivars but remember to be happy if you get anything at all. I've been both successful and unsuccessful at sowing CP seed. It's an ongoing learning exerience.

I am the furthest person from a pro but I think they sprout green then the sunlight or Art,light (intense) they like a lot of CP's turn red or even a deep red, that's my opinion, I am not saying this is right or wrong just my input.
