Hi all I am wondering what those brownish/rusty spots are on the pitchers of my Nepenthes and more precisely, what could cause them? It's on a windowsill, bright indirect sunlight and nothing seems to have changed in the conditions of maintenance...so I'm quite clueless Here's a picture of the plant. I can provide more if necessary, although I only have my cellphone to take them. An overview of my growing spot will be in a photo thread I will create pretty soon! Thanks for any help really, I've had my share of nice plants dying off with my last Wistuba import a while back :S Fred

I will also add that no leaves are affected by this, no speckling whatsoever. Media is pure LFS and perlite (2:1) I just saw it seems to be a little rootbound (what looks like brownish/reddish roots are growing out the holes at the bottom and up along the inside of the pot). Could this condition be caused by it being rootbound? As for watering, I let the pot dry out a fair amount (say the top 1/3 or 1/2 of the sphag dry out at most and then I water so the media gets fully rehydrated). The cup underside is to prevent any water to flow out onto the table but it never gets standing water except a pretty small amount and for a short time, just after watering as described above. Also, I should specify I used melted snow from this winter as water for all my plants, none has any problem with it as they all seem to grow pretty well. The snow hasn't been in contact with salts from de-icing roads and such. I hope this describes sufficiently my parameters Thanks again

Hard to tell from the pictures but are you sure the pitchers aren't just developing colour? Are you able to get a picture that is a little more in focus?
