Hi there, I just purchased an H. minor a few weeks, it was healthy and growing mature pitchers, but now it looks like it may have a problem. I went away for a few days, and decided it would be best to leave it in a tray of water, about 1cm deep, and it's growing in the original media, which is live sphagnum moss. I returned after four days to discover dark green/ olive mottling covering parts of the new and old foliage. As well, the humidify wasn't refilled properly, so it wasn't recieving adequite humidity. I read in Savage Garden that they can be grown in sphagnum moss, as so long as it's not saturated, so I'm assuming this is what I've done wrong. I removed the plant from the water as soon as I read that. and I'm crossing my fingers that it will recover and grow new pitchers.
Does anyone know if this might be the likely cause of the colour change, or not, or if the plant might recover? All the other conditions seem to be ideal, 23C by day, 15C by night, bright light, good air circulation, frequent misting, humidifying, etc. Thanks!

I'm actually using tap water, which I know is recommended against, but I've never had problems before. The municipal water here in Port Moody (just outside of Vancouver) is some of the cleanest in the world, very few dissolved salts, no chlorine etc. Although, I've never tested the water, so I'm not certain of that, so perhaps I shouldn't use tap water. I'll see if I can upload some photos.

Port Moody water should be good, but your line maybe contaminated enough for CP's not to like it. I'd test it just to make sure. I have to say though, Abbotsford water is good and Chilliwack/Hope water gets bottled for Nestle If you get some pics up it'll help a lot. It could be a number of problems.

No photos to put up yet...but I think I figured it out: I pulled back the moss and noticed that where the moss had covered, the pitchers had not changed colour, so I think the new CPU fan that I just put in the terrarium might be to powerful. As well, the plant is sending up three or four new pitchers. The Highland Nepethes (produces pitchers which just shrivel up), and epiphytic Utricularia grow (short lived, yellowing leaves), and yet the miniature orchids do well. So I repositioned the fan so as to cut down on the air circulation. I'll let you know what happens in the next few weeks. Thanks guys!
