I have a 12 year old friend that I am helping him learn about CPs This plant did this last year and now again this year. He left it too long last year and lost all the babies, but this year I hope to get all them rooted and growing. Any advice on when to take them and try to root them?

Very cool! I'd say try live sphagnum or long fibered sphagnum for rooting. I'm not sure when to take them, but I'd guess after the flowers were done setting seed that they'd start to decline fairly quickly. If you don't let the flowers set seed but rather take the plants of the stalk earlier you probably have a better chance of getting the plants to grow.

Thanks for your suggestion. I will probably try and cut one of the top ones off early and root it in live sphagnum. Then as soon as it starts to die down I will cut it and put it in the live sphagnum.
This plant belongs to my friend but I have it at my place, so I can watch it closely.

This is how they look now!!! and a close up. I took two off when they were smaller and they are doing OK, but are not as big as the ones left on. I am going to plant some now. As you can see they are starting to make roots.

I hope the babies also do this, and if they do then there will be some trades!!!

Cool! I didn't know VFTs could do that? Is it common?
