Hello everyone I got interested into carnivorous plants a few months ago. I Brought my venus fly trap in the middle of November and it has been growing well. I did not forced it into dormancy because it just kept on growing like crazy. Reciently its been getting a lot of sun since the the weather has changed and I noticed that the leaves are getting more yellowish green and are getting a bit shorter but otherwise the plant seems healthy. Could this be that the plant wants to go into its dormancy period at this time? A pic of my plant can be seen on photobucket.com/intikhablook at v.f.t #1 and you will notice the difference in colour when I first bought it to now. Any opinion will be appreciated.

Hi Intikhabali, I had a look at your vft pics and your vft doesn't look too bad. It might just be the lighting in that pic that makes it appear to have more of a yellowish hue. I did notice that the plant was in some type of container, maybe for humidity? And it also seems to be spilling over the sides of it's pot by quite a bit. I would recommend, doing away with the container it is in, and repotting it into a 5" diameter pot. I find vft's do better in larger pots. And they don't need to be in high humidity. Also, they just love full sunlight, so if you can get it into a south facing window, with direct sunlight, it will be much happier. And then once it warms up some more, it would really like to be outside in full sun, during the summer. If you have more questions about vft's, check out flytrapcare.com: www.flytrapcare.com/This is probably the most comprehensive vft site and forum in the world, and one of our members here, hackerberry, is a moderator on that site. If you post your questions there, you will no doubt get some good advice. Good luck with your vft's. dvg

Thank you for your advice. Yes I did place it in the container to keep in the humidity because it was winter. I will remove the container and replant it in a bigger pot. Was wondering if I should transplant it now or wait for it to go dormant? Thanks again your advice was greatly appreciated.

I would transplant it now.
With the longer days, it will grow well for you until fall and you can give it a dormancy then.

I repotted my v.f.t on Sunday. It was only then I noticed how small the pot was. I also got a smaller plant, there were two more but they were still firmly attached to the parent plant. The plant look much better in the bigger pot and doing well from what I can see. I posted a pic on photobucket. Thanks for the advice. Thanks for the advice.
