I just took my flytraps out of the fridge where they have been since the beginning of November (along with some stratifying sarracena seeds and a baby D. rotundifolia). So tell me- if all tha traps are black now, does that mean it did not survive dormancy? If not, how long should I wait until I give up on the one I think may not have made it?

Hi Canadaone,
If the the traps were the only thing to turn black, your vft's should still be okay. Are the petioles still green?
The most important thing to look at is the corm. Is it still white and firm. If it is, you should be fine.
Do you have any pics of them just out of dormancy?
regards,
dvg

If the bulb is crisp and white (not mushy, brown, smelly) that means it's alive. Make sure not to ''shock'' it too much - sudden temp swings from fridge to room temperature won't be appreciated. I'd say leave them in there until the temps are over 5 celsius. you can put them outside after that, it will slowly get warmer in spring, and they'll; have plenty of light. my .02$

Thanks for the input. I checked the rhizome, and it was mushy and fell apart when I squeezed it a bit. So, I wish a fond farewell to Scarlett Bristletooth. Sigh.

Sorry to hear of your Scarlet Bristletooth's demise Canadaone.
Hopefully with the upcoming trading season you can pick up another one from one of our members, or even get one in the BCP group order.
Good luck with getting it back into your collection again.

DVG, I am the one who is spearheading the BCP group order! (LOL) and Kheen's Carnivores is the only place you can purchase this cultivar- Rick Kheen developed it himself. By the way, he will be getting this cultivar registered soon. He is really excited about it- it is the first "Made in Canada" cultivar to be registered!
