Hey guys, Just wondering if anyone here know how to steer my flower stem so it does not grow straight up because of my lights... I vaguely remember reading something about it but didnt worry at the time as there were no signs of flowering. I definitely wont cut it off cus my plants seem to be doing really well and id want my plant to show off its flowers.lol.

Jimbonium: Unless you want seed, it is best to cut off the flower stem so that you plant will put it's strength into the rhizome instead of the flower. You can propogate another flytrap from the flower stem by planting it into a peat/perlite mix. The top most part of the flower stem works best for this. However, sometimes if you cut the flower stem into three or four pieces, you can get a baby flytrap off of each peice by doing this.

Flowers of the venus fly traps really weaken the plant, from my experience, so I as well would chop it off and try propagating it instead. But if you want to keep it, a little stake and a piece of twine can be used to ween it away from the lights. From my experience, it will grow sideways and then start going straight up again a couple days/week later, repeat by moving the stake+twine when this happens. Flower stalks aren't very maliable, so be careful not to snap it.

hmm ok i think im going to cut it off then and wait till summer to grow the flowers for some seeds. So say i cut it off right now, its at about 2cm long. How do i propagate it. Do i just stick it in the mix standing up? How deep should i put it in? Or do i leave it lying down? And where would the new plant sprout from? Would it sprout from where i cut it on the stem?
Thanks and sorry if someone has already asked these questions.

Hi I am giving you a hot link to a site that specializes in Venus Flkytrap. They cover both sexual and asexual reproduction of Flytraps including flower stalks. If you have questions, Matt, the guy who runs that site is very knowledgeable. A number of the people here belong to that site too. www.flytrapcare.com/propagation-of-venus-fly-traps.html
