Ok, I'm excited. This morning I was thinking I'm a brown thumb. My lily seeds hadn't germinated yet, my sundews were doing ok, but not much colour. Then tonight, I get home from work and take another quick peek under the plastic dome of my seed germinating set up. Low and behold! A sprout! I look harder... More sprouts! I'm not a lily seed failure (this was a big concern for me, I'm just getting into growing/germinating and soon to be hybridizing lilies)! So bolstered with this news, I go look at the sundews. There's some water condensed on a few leaves, I worry about that... But there's a hint of red on the spatulata. Then I look closer...A flower stalk! Right there, growing up strong. I force my non-plant growing SO to come look. He doesn't care, as expected, but man, am I happy.
But this post does come with questions. Do I let it flower. If yes, I believe I read that it self seeds? Do I let it go to seed? These seeds should be contained in the container that it's in, but who knows? Do I worry that it could become a weed? Do I try to harvest seeds? There are already numerous little plants around the main plant. Should I move these plants to their own pots. I'm thinking if I do, I should keep one, but would there be any interest in spatulatas? Or do I just chuck them to give the main plant room. And should I change the medium then, since I doubt it's in peat/perlite mix? I had intended on hanging a grow light in a different room (I never decided if the light should get hung in front of the east facing window, or should I hang it in a different area so that I have 3 growing zones, south sky light, east window, and under grow light. Ideas? How do I tell how much light each of these spaces actually gets?) and putting the spatulata under it, but if it's willing to flower where it is, do I think it's happy there, and not move it?
I'm sorry I have so many questions, and I'm sorry I always apologize for having so many questions, but I can't find better information that the people here give me.
Thanks again everyone!
I'll take a picture soon....
