Hi everyone! So I'm going to set up my "carni shelf" this weekend. It will sit under an East facing window. I will put my glass apothecary jars on it, with my sundews (all 2 right now) in them. I was told on this board that my plants would need more light than just this, so I'm going to try to find some small but attractive lamps that I can either wall mount, or stand on the shelf with the jars. I'm hoping to find light bulbs that fit in standard sockets (and lamps with standard sockets). What watt, spectrum, lumen, other stuff I don't know do I need? And where do I find said bulb for cheap? Thanks everyone!

You can get 26W screw-in CF bulbs at Home Depot. They work well in the little clamp lamps with the silver metal reflector or the 10 buck swing arm desk lamps from Staples. I think they're about $15 for a 2-pack.
Think about getting some fish food pellets for feeding you plants - unless you have a lot of bugs.

I went to HD, had some issues finding a good desk light. The one I orginally picked was a 3 touch sensor, which doesn't work with most CF's. And I found a 75W argow blub that states it increases plant growth. So I got it, and found a suspended light that will take up to 100W. So once I get my self up, and my plants moved, I'll hang the light. How far above the plants should the bulb/light be? Does this sound like a really bad idea to anyone? When do I know my plants need food? The spatulata has lots of baby plants around the base. I just so happen to have an aquarium as well as plants, with lots of different types of foods. I know I has dried daphnia, probably dried blood worms, I think dried brine shrimp, and maybe dried krill. What should I look for in my fish food cupboard to feed my sundews? What ingerdients should I stay away from (I worry about krill and brine shrimp, could have high levels of salts = bad?) Some one helped me learn how to post pictures (I can't remember who now, sorry!) Se here are my two little guys. Spatulata: adelae we'll see if that works. As you can see, I'd like to put some materials around the outside of the pot, so it doesn't look so bare. Is gravel used in aquariums ok? I know it's covered in silicon, and I'd get the natural coloured stuff. Oh, one more thing, there are some dead leaves, or at least some that don't produce dew anymore. Should I cut these off? And I think I have a stow-away in my adelae. I'll get a better picture of him later. Thanks for everyones help, I know I ask a lot of questions!

No, its better if you don't cut off the leaves with no dew anymore. as long as they are green and alive, they are producing energy for the plant, even though they lost the ability to capture bugs.

Those are really nicely presented in their jars! Your adelae should be fine in the east window, mine is really thriving in a north window. (I haven't tried spatulata)

Aquarium gravel is fine, I use a fine granite gravel that looks like a course sand. I would avoid krill or brine shrimp because of the salt but the freeze-dried blood worms would be fine.

How do I know when I should feed them? I was told to re-pot the spatulata, I got my bale of peat, so I'm wondering if now looks like a good time to do that, and how should I try to remover the old medium?
There's one leaf on the adelae that has gone black and maybe moldy at the tip. Should I cut this part off?
I want to trim some of the moss down around the spatulata, good idea, or no?
Oh, and my previous post should have said "once I get my SHELF up I'll hang the light" not self.
So if adelae is happy in an East window, should I put it under more light, or should I leave it under the South sky light, where they both are right now? Where would the spatulata like to be? (I guess the options are: under South Sky light; under East window; and under East window with added grow light. I can off center the light when I hang it to give me more lighting options.)
You guys are the best! Better than any book, which reminds me, I really should finish reading my copy of growing carnivorous plants!
